Baby earth shattering scream when hungry

My DD is 5 weeks old and shows 0 signs of being hungry - just opens her eyes and screams the house down. I'm terrified she will do this in public. I take her out between feeds and freaking out she will wake hungry.

What can I do? Introduce a pacifier!? It's not always going to be super easy to put her straight on breast when walking down a busy street. What do others do when needing to BF quickly?! Sit on pavement? 🤪

That earth shattering scream is really magical. Basically you and your dp feel pain when your hear baby cry but the rest of us just hear a newborn wail. Don’t stress about it, we all remember it and those without kids won’t be anywhere near as uncomfortable as you and baby’s dad!

try a baby carrier my daughter is much happier against my chest but dont worry normal people understand babys cry its normal.

What mum said!

DC1 cried so often and I found it enormously stressful when out in public.

Now that my children are older I just hear a hungry/tired baby and think oh, poor baby, poor mother, and go on with my day.

It’s nowhere near as stressful for others as it is for you!

What all the others said. But yep, I've breastfed in some strange places- standing up at monkey enclosure in zoo, standing up on a bus in Paris (very tricky, DH had a good grip on me for any sudden stops)....Nobody blinked an eye. Do what you need to do for baby & know 99% of people hear the baby cry &only feel for her/you. The other 1% who might be pricks about it aren't worth your worry.

Definitely agree with other posters. I remember that scream and thinking it was awful.
And then a few years later I was in a cafe with a friend who had newborn twins and both were crying. She was frantic trying to soothe them and kept apologising to people and tk me about the noise. I kept telling her it really isn't that bad! But to her it must have sounded much louder and more distressing. Other people just hear a normal baby cry. Don't stress :)

Oh my god it totally sounds a million times worse to you than to the rest of the world! I have an almost 9 month old boy and I still can't stand the sound if him crying, even just a bit. It does something to me. It doesn't help that I swear he's the loudest baby in the world - his demands are so loud and urgent! But if I'm with friends they barely notice he's crying. All babies cry. Same at my pilates class. One baby cries a lot but I barely notice. But the mum gets really flustered about it. People are only really attuned in to THEIR child.

Other ways you could do it... learn how to breastfeed standing up? I only figured out how to do this when he was at least 6 no the old but it was really useful when I realised he was hungry and HAD to have food right now (I never figured out my son's hunger signs either- if he has any other than crying!). Or use a sling... I never figured out how to breastfeed in one but apparently once you have the knack it's easy!
