Any recommendations for breastfeeding consultant

Hi,

Slight cross post (have a linked one on postnatal depression). My partner is really struggling to breastfeed our baby. The little one sucks for maybe 15 mins on the right boob before falling asleep and then when we switch him to the left boob he sucks for about a min and then gives up and falls asleep again. We try waking him, tickling feet, picking up etc but it only seems to work for about 10 seconds before he stops again and appears to fall back asleep.

Due to the distress that the baby is in, it sets off my partners anxiety and contributes to her general feeling of depression. The midwife who visited us today was of very little help and so we are looking for external sources of support. Has anyone used any consultants or similar to help them in situations where they are struggling to feed? We don't want to go to bottles permanently (have been using them for topups) but at this rate fear that we might have no choice (for example my partner is so shattered that I sent her to bed and have done the last two feeds with a bottle).

Ask your midwife or search online for your local Infant feeding team or Maternity Support Worker. They really helped me when I was struggling and they're not usually well advertised - it's a free NHS service and they can come really regularly to help your partner with techniques to become comfortable with feeding.
Good luck
