HELP!! Getting breastfed 9month old to accept formula

I am trying to introduce formula milk to my 9 month old who has been exclusively breastfed but he's not having it at all. Tried Aptamil, SMA, Cow & Gate, HIpp but no luck at all.
He has solids 3 times a day but he still needs milk, please any advice on how to make this transition to formula?; I am due to return to work in a few weeks and I don't have enough breastmilk to express for him in my absence...

I am returning to work full time and would leave home about 7am and get back for 5pm on the days I have to be in the office; other days I would be working from home.
I will find a convenient and safe place to express at work so I dont have breast milk dripping onto my computer!

babeMom: you may well find it easier than you expect. I didn't put myself under any pressure, just gave expressing a go and am still feeding 3 months later

Hi Babemum,

Lots of good advice here. DD2 went happily all day without a bf from about 8 months. She just had water in a beaker cup or cow's milk - the amount they drink is very small anyway, not pints of the stuff.

If you still fill up during the day I would suggest a bfeed in the morning, express at lunchtime and then bfeed when you get home. this way the expressed milk from Monday could make a lunchtime/nap time bottle for Tuesday etc. with no need to freeze/defrost etc. At weekends you could then just do a lunchtime/ nap time bfeed instead of the expressing. Would this work for you? You will find that as your baby gets bigger you will fill up less and maybe express less but evn 2 oz would be a fair enough drink if they had water available all day.

At 16 months and still bfing my boobs can go overnight no problem these days and the rise to the occasion on my return -what adaptable things they are. When I am with DD2 she still feeds on demand although sometimes I just say no and she toddles off...

You'be there for a teatime feed and bedtime then. Definitely wouldn't worry about starting formula at all. Feed as normal when you are on days off. You will find that your milk supply will adjust once you return. I wouldn't do anything much in advance to be honest. Just express for comfort if you need to when at work.
