Wind stopping sleep

Hi all. My little girl is 4 weeks old. She is formula fed and we are really really struggling with sleep. The most she gets in her Moses basket is 10 mins before she wakes herself up trying to fart or farting. I'm fairly certain she also has reflux so I make sure she gets breaks in the feed and is burped.

She only has a poo every 2-4 days but docs/ health visitor are happy that this is just because she is formula fed and that her poos are good when she goes.

I am going to go back to them this week as I don't know how I can help her. I hate that she gets so distressed farting and also it's exhausting that I can't put her down and she won't sleep. We do tummy massages but can't do bicycle legs as her hips aren't developed fully yet (she was breech and didn't have the space - my poor baby I've passed her so many little problems I can't fix :(! )

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it!!

We went back and forwards to the Dr and HV with my now 8 month old as he had the most awful trapped wind, constipation and occasional reflux. We did all the warm baths, massage, leg bicycling and it made no difference. So many nights of him screaming in pain and being so bloated with all the farts trapped in his belly. We were fobbed off time and time again until a trainee GP suggested a cows milk protein allergy. He’s combi fed so I’ve cut dairy out of my diet for breastfeeding and we use a prescribed formula too (which he refuses to drink Hmm) It is something worth considering and I know that CMPA is often misdiagnosed as reflux.

@birdybirdbird thank you!! We got fobbed off today. I did buy some Colief to try after another mum recommended it. I have my 6 week appt next week, will bring it up again then. Did they do any tests to diagnose it or was it just off the symptoms?? Thank you again xx

No tests, just a case of going dairy free and regularly reviewing with the gp. If there’s an obvious instant reaction like hives, they can do allergy tests. He has generally been so much better since stopping dairy so I think he does have an issue. I’d suggest you have a google of the symptoms and keep an eye on it. Not sure if you’re formula, breast or mixed feeding but the prescription formulas aren’t very nice and I believe the earlier you can get them on it the better. My LO won’t even touch it so now having to exclusively breast feed which wasn’t in my long term plan! 🤞🏻for you that’s it’s just an immature digestive system that she grows out of rather than a dietary issue as it is a massive pain!

My first had reflux.
Things that helped...
carrying her in a sling most of the day so she was upright - helped release the wind,
using a wedge in the next to me cot so her head was raised,
using infacol (similar to colief I think),
Baby massage (tummy and legs)

But ultimately we had to wait it out. She got much better around 3/4 months and had no issues from 6 months once we started weaning.
