and in true paranoid 1st time mama style, I am wondering if this is ok - ds has been pooing every couple of days, and today they are back to back (and up his back, in truth). Still yellow, and not ridiculously runny, but LOADS.

sounds like you got yerself a champion feeder there!

(sorry I don't know enough to reassure you)

katewilson13 · 23/07/2007 13:27

I had 3 the other day! Sounds like he is a champion feeder (well done!). If he isn't in pain, and seems normal (usual colour, reacting normally) then I bet he's fine! Unbelieveable the amount of poo that such a small thing as a baby can make isn't it?

Spink · 23/07/2007 14:12

OMG no 5 has just arrived. I'm off to buy some more nappies

how old is ds? when dd1 was a new baby she would poo at every feed, so a poo every nappy.

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 14:17

how old?

My DD pooed between 10 and 15 times a day for the first 5 weeks. then one day nothing. she now has a very explosive poo every 2nd or 3rd day, and the expression "filling her nappy" is rather appropriate!

if he's having a growth spurt, he might be feeding more hence pooing more. hopefully it'll settle down soon.

Spink · 23/07/2007 15:27

he is 22 weeks, so not really newborn any more The growth spurt thing sounds possible, tho I haven't really noticed that he is eating much more (could he be a stealth eater and just be sucking a lot harder than usual, do you think??)
But he seems very happy, apart from having a slightly red bot. and that is hardly surprising..

bless you getting all gooey about poo
yes a growth spurt sounds likely

FrannyandZooey · 23/07/2007 18:45

One day when ds was very tiny he did 22 poos

I was in tears on the phone to the nappy laundry service

Spink · 23/07/2007 18:57

F&Z - sorry but 22??? how could you tell they were seperate poos and not just one very long massive one?

OP posts:
Spink · 23/07/2007 18:57

FrannyandZooey · 23/07/2007 19:00

Because I changed his nappy 22 times

no come to think of it I sat sobbing watching dp change his nappy 22 times

it was after every feed, I am sure

Spink · 23/07/2007 19:02

ah the wonder of those early days

22 POOS - you should have that embroidered on a belt!

and to think I was impressed with my ds shooting liquid poo 1.5m across the bedroom

FrannyandZooey · 23/07/2007 22:22

LOL @ embroidered on a belt

the worst of it was nobody said "gor blimey, that's bonkers, ah well it will settle down"

they all just said "oh dear. Mmm, well they DO poo a lot. Poor you" while we took out bank loans to pay for extra nappies and cried ourselves to sleep.

The culprit turned out to be, erm, orange juice. I was craving it and drinking about 3 litres a day. And they say stuff can't get through in breastmilk

JoyS · 24/07/2007 10:29

When DD was that age she would go a few days without pooing and then have the DAY OF POO, lots of small-medium poos winding up with a real stonker around 4pm. The kind you have to change in the bathtub.

phdlife · 24/07/2007 10:56

how do you get them to do it at 4 pm, JoyS? ds keeps doing his poo bombs at 5am! (Saves up his night feeds!)

Spink · 24/07/2007 10:59

I think I might have a babygro printed up with the words "DAY OF POO" across the chest. For those special occasions. Or maybe across the bum would be more appropriate

my best friend sent this for ds!!

phdlife · 24/07/2007 11:11

ooh Spink your ds looks a bit like mine (super cute)!

Spink · 24/07/2007 13:45

ooh they could be brothers! I would buy the babygro except he'd only be wearing it for 5 mins before a poo escaped the confines of the nappy and rendered it unwearable.

NOW, back to business.

The pooing continues and tho mostly I think it is ok, I am also a bit worried.
Particularly because he had a strange one this morning (TMI follows)... There were stringy lumpy bits (like lots of curds joined together). They were greeny-brown. Along with that was lots of very very watery stuff, which had mainly been absorbed by the nappy, leaving only a greeny tide mark. That is not normal, surely?? Since then he has had another yellow one.

HELP US!

ah - I can help with this one - IF he is breastfed, it is quite common (though stinkier than usual!) - seem to recall it could happen if they were slightly dehydrated, during hot weather, or... damn, I know there was a 3rd thing but now don't remember what bfing advisor said! oh well - anyway not to worry, it is normal and will pass (pardon the pun)
