Possetting/vomit after every BF

My 4 week old baby is being sick after every feed.
I BF on demand and she cluster feeds in the evening but in the day time can go 3 hours between feeds. She generally burps herself as soon as she is sat up as I’ve had a lot of conflicting advice of whether to burp her or not.
I try and keep her sat up after feeds but even up to an hour after feeding she will sick back up her feed and this seems to be getting more in volume.
She latches on really well and is gaining weight having wet and dirty nappies. No real signs of reflux other than the vomit?
Is this normal??

My DS is exactly the same! He’s 6 weeks now and he’s just brought some milk back up over my shoulder. I spend all day with a muslin over my shoulder, and keep him upright as much as I can. His posseting is worse at night as he cluster feeds then as well.

I’ve discussed it with my health visitor and she has said it’s normal for some babies. so long as he’s gaining weight, nappies are ok, he isn’t distressed and it isn’t getting worse then not to worry. He’ll often bring milk up when I wind him and he is a real gasbag at times as well.

It can be disheartening though and my washing machine is on loads as we get through lots of clothes (mine and his!) and muslin cloths in a day.

It has got better as he’s got bigger & I’m hoping he’ll grow out of it. If you’re worried then perhaps see your health visitor or GP? As you’ve said she seems to be bringing more back up. Is she distressed at all by it? DS just opens his mouth and up it comes.

I would keep burping her - I burp DS as he does get uncomfortable with wind - he has got better with this as well.

My DS was like this. He's 5 months now and still sicks up after most feeds. But he's gained weight okay and has normal nappies and is just fine. I just have to wash a lot of bibs/muslins and have a big stack so I've always got a clean one, as they usually go straight in the machine after a feed!

As long as baby is gaining weight, has good wet dirty nappy output and isn’t upset after the it’s normal. Try and keep her upright after feeds if you can (I use a sling).

Bibs and muslins are your best friends! I know it’s annoying but she will get over it.

My twins were like this until we added solids to their diet at 6 months, and then it stopped almost overnight. It was like existing in a sticky, stinky milk bath for 6 months and I am now the proud owner of five gazillion muslins. Well maybe not proud, that doesn't see quite right Hmm

If baby is seeming happy, gaining weight, and the healthcare professionals have no concerns, just arm yourself with muslins, prioritise showers for you (nothing drags you down so much as a stinky cleavage haunting you all day) and remember that This Too Shall Pass ....

Good luck!

Mine both did this, it’s such a pain.
I ended up burping them after every five minutes, which helped a bit.
I used to gaze longingly at the mums who had relaxing bfing sessions, sitting for ages feeding their babies. My bfing sessions were very very active affairs that involved Woking hard to get the air out.
I complained to the hv but as pp says, as long as the baby gains weight you just have to smile through it.

DS was a happy puker for the first few months, sometimes quite impressive amounts even an hour after feeding. He put on weight fine so we just bought a lot of muslins and resigned ourselves to life with a slight odour of milky vomit. We did try baby gaviscon but it didn't agree with him at all x

Yes the HV suggested maybe seeing GP for some baby gaviscon but I think as long as it’s not anything to worry about I’d rather not give her anything unless she was uncomfortable with it.
DD does get upset sometimes with being sick but HV said probably due to taste in mouth as she likes to try and feed again straight after.
