Upping bottle ounces

Hi,

I'm a first time mam and was just wanting some advice. My little girl is 6weeks and 2 days, she's been draining 5oz bottles for a good 2 weeks now. Am I okay to up to 6oz?! We've been giving her a 6oz in the morning and before bed then 5oz during the day...sometime she will settle straight away and sometimes she still fusses and cries for more. We try to settle her most of the time but sometimes we just can't unless we feed her more.
The HV said to up it when she was draining bottles but then also says she's taking a little more than she should at her age anyway...just being a first time mam I'm not sure what to do and would like some advice from other mams who've been in a similar situation!

If you think your baby needs more ounces then give it!

Some babies feed in big doses and some little and often. I'm sure theres a growth spurt at 6weeks and they can feed more ounces and more frequently.

Congrats on your new baby 😊

How heavy are they now?
A rough guide we use in paediatrics is 150ml/kg/day split up 3-4 hourly. Just do a quick calculation and check you won't be overfeeding, it can lead to reflux type symptoms.

There should always be milk left in the bottle as your little one should be deciding when to stop.

@Hiphopopotamous.

Can you break that down for me? As in give me an example of how you calculate it. Genuine interest here

Thank you everyone! I was a bit dubious upping her ounces and the HV and doctors are very set on calculations etc but if she's still hungry surely I should be able to give her a bit more...my original midwife said just feed her when she wants, she'll take what she wants and leave what she doesn't - she might want a full bottle or just a snack.
She's quite a sickly baby as well so she'll always bring about an ounce of her bottle back anyway
