It's been over a week now. I've had her to the doctors who gave me hydration salts but don't know how I'm supposed to get these into her as she just refusing her bottles. She used to drink 6oz in one go now she only has 1oz - 3oz at the most for each feed. I'm so stressed and worried. Has this happened to anyone else with a positive outcome.

So sorry your going through this ...
My little guy has eaten less for a few days at a time averaging 20 oz a day ( same age as your daughter ) we log his feeds and it usually follows a period of eating larger amounts say around 45oz a day

He has never got dehydrated yet though and never as long as your little one

He struggles to eat when his teeth are moving about soma does of nurophen and wait 20 mins can help?

Can you use a spoon or calpol / nurophen syringe to slowly feed it to her? X

Is she having solids at all? Would she take the smaller bottles more often, say every 1-2 hours during the day? While that would be less convenient for you it wouldn't necessarily be a problem for her and should be short lived as she'll get more calories from food as she starts weaning.

Could she be teething?

Lottiebugz22 · 07/05/2019 15:56

Thank you for replying.
I don't think she's teething as bad as she was now but I've tried calpol and teething gel. Haven't tried nurofen or granules yet so am open to that.
Xx

I haven't weaned her yet.

I have only dealt with potential dehydration in a slightly older baby and would definitely suggest that you speak to the GP or health visitor for guidance. I ended up making up the Dioralyte with water (I presume you would need to use cooled boiled water for a baby under 6 months) and syringing 5ml of it into her mouth every 5 minutes. Can't say it was fun but it kept her going.

Chartreuser · 07/05/2019 16:02

How often is she feeding and how much is she using in over 24 hours?

Is she producing wet nappies, tears etc? I would imagine she's taking enough to avoid dehydration as she is taking some, just maybe not a huge amount of calories. If she's ok in herself and not displaying signs of dehydration then I'd give it a few more days.

Lottiebugz22 · 07/05/2019 16:06

3oz is the most she will take from a 6oz bottle but it's been 1oz on some and she has five feeds a day. She is having wet nappies and seems okay. She's sleeping okay as well.

How is your little one? Wet nappies is a good sign x x

Lottiebugz22 · 09/05/2019 13:05

She seems okay but still taking 1-3oz at the most. I'm kind of drained with it so just letting her have what she wants really. Thank you for asking x

Two methods .... I have found leaving my bub 4 and half hours can mean they will have a bigger bottle ... also was told a reduced appetite could be a sign they are ready for weaning ( combined with being able to sit , hand to mouth coordination etc) so on that note I am going to start weaning a couple of weeks early x x

moreismore · 09/05/2019 21:02

My DS refused to feed for 5 days after a nasty bout of hand foot and mouth. No wet nappies for 24hrs it was awful. I used syringe as PP suggested and eventually managed to get him going again when he was very very sleepy.

Newmumma83 · 09/05/2019 21:03

Wow that sound s awfull... perhaps get weighed with health visitor and discuss with them ... or doctor encase it’s something like that x x

moreismore · 09/05/2019 21:03

Ps I have no experience of bottle feeding but both my children have had spells when they have got very very fussy feeding and it’s been little and often so that could be what’s going on. Hopefully as with so many things it just passes with a little time.

Fatted · 09/05/2019 21:04

What is she doing when you try to feed her? Is she crying at the bottle, falling asleep, getting distracted or just playing with it?

It's hard to give advice without knowing fully and I'd keep checking with the GP. It could be one of many things.

But my eldest was like this. He had reflux and at 3 months just randomly started refusing bottles. He would be crying at the bottle, feeding caused him so much pain. Sad. I weaned him at 4 months under medical advice.

Just keep offering little and often. Make smaller feeds and if you need to make more, then you can.

Lottiebugz22 · 10/05/2019 21:24

Shes playing with the bottle. She's not in pain she laughs when doing it lol it's tiring. Doctors just say same thing keep trying. Thank you for all the responses it helps.
