Baby vomiting formula

Hi all need some advice..
My DS is 7 weeks tomorrow and he’s still so tiny everybody thinks he looks like a newborn. I’m breastfeeding and also giving him expressed milk but it doesn’t seem to be making him gain much weight he’s very skinny. I’ve given him a bottle of formula (Aptimil) twice and he’s vomited really badly so I’m scared to try again.
Is there any reason as to why he’s not able to hold it down ? Is there another formula I could try?

Some babies do vomit a lot (it seems more common with bottle fed babies).

When did you last see your HV? I know you said he's small, but is he gaining weight?

Some babies are petite, ask your health visitor for her opinion.

My first was mix fed for a while, he constantly threw up the formula. Not allergic, just was harsh on his stomach. As soon as I cut out the bottles he stopped vomiting and seemed generally happier. He was really steady with weight until weaning, he then shot up from 50th to 98th percentile and is still there.

Thank you ladies, I saw my HV a while back I’m seeing her next week. He is gaining weight but very slowly the last time she weighed him he was in the 9th percentile not really sure what that means?
@Gummygoddess Did you just BF after that?

9th percentile just means that out of an imaginary 100 babies at different weights, he would be number 9, with 8 babies weighing less and 91 babies weighing more. It's just a low end of normal, but still normal.

I did just breastfeed after that yes, he was much happier and less sick, we finished breastfeeding at 13 months. He weaned himself off when I was pregnant with my second child. It was a bit difficult to start with as I had to start making more milk to make up for the formula he was having but it all balanced out within a week as I gradually reduced the bottles.

I haven't tried comfort milk, I think that is thicker so it should take longer to be digested. I'm not sure if that means it's harder to vomit up or not though.
