Hi Has anyone advice on which is the better electric breast pump, Avent IQ or the medela standard one?

Also with the Medela pump can you use avent bottles or only medela bottles which doent seem to come with teats?!!

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the recommendations may be a little out of date. We've tested a whole host of products to find the best electric breast pump on the market right now.

Hope this helps! Flowers

There are also Ameda Egnell pumps which you can hire. I don't think it matters what bottles you use with Ameda Egnell.

Lansinoh are doing a manual pump too now

I exclusively expressed for a year with dd1 and used the Ameda Lactaline. It's a double electric pump and cost around £75. Really quiet and easy to use/assemble and great customer service.
I also have a Avent Handpump which I'm using now when I'm at work. Takes a bit of getting used to at first but works well.
I personally wouldn't recommend the Medela Mini Electric - it's v v v noisy (think having to watch tv with the subtitles on!) and I somehow managed to break two of them. Mothercare's response was that I must have been overusing it....!!!
It worked out cheaper for me to buy the Lactaline than to hire (in Kent it seems to be around £40/month) - and you can always sell them on. Hope this helps and doesn't cause more confusion!!

I persnally used the Avent Isis (i paid £25 for it) with dd1 and i was expressing enough to donate 50 -70oz per week to the local SCBU. Thought it was a great pump.

This time with dd2 i got the Medela PupInStyle (£195) as was planning to donate milk again, it is a double electric pump and has the 2phase expression to closely mimic babys suck.. I seem to just get the pump together and next to me and i have expressed 6oz instantly!!. i would highly recommend it for those who have a busy schedule and little time for expressing. There is only 3 parts to the pumps - bottles, valves and shields, attach the tubing to the pump and whayhey!

Thanks for the advice

Can you use avent bottles with the medela pump in style?

determination, donating milk to a scbu is a lovely idea, if mine comes in plentifully, I'd love to do something like that!

I was going to buy a medela, I'd heard they were loud but not THAT loud! What kind of noise is it? like a vibratey noise or a clunking?

determination · 16/07/2007 14:03

i think it is just the mini electric and the mini electric double pump that are loud. My friend has the swing which is the single version of mine and they are really quiet.

Im not sure if Avent would fit as didn't buy any. With the pump in style i got 4 storage bottles, a cooler carrier and a rucksack that fits everything in neatly with accessible zippers to access each individual part, can be used with batteries or mains.

I just used to decant from the Ameda bottles into Avent bottles.
I also donated to SCBU - have you looked at milk banks here Unfortunately they aren't in every town. They're grateful for every drop. I had to have a blood test and then was all set to go. From memory I think they "prefer" you to donate milk before your baby is 6 mths old but can't quite remember why.

I asked my nursing coach what to use because I had such a hard time with the cheap pumps I purchased with my others. She suggested the Medela. It was a small fortune but you can do both breast at the same time and I was able to pump more milk. After a month, I was able to pump a 6-8oz bottle in ten minutes.

Leati · 16/07/2007 18:47

Oh and the medelia did come with a cold sack to carry milk in and a hand pump.

determination · 16/07/2007 20:09

Leati,

thats the one i have.. the Medela Pump in Style its fantastic
