Medication while breastfeeding

Doctor has prescribed Dovonex for my psoriasis. The instructions say it’s not recommended while bf because it may be passed in breast milk and there are no studies to verify its safety. Doctor and pharmacist both say it’ll be fine and the risk of problems is low. I’m in agony with my skin and I’m desperate to treat it but terrified that it’ll affect my baby.

Has anyone used this medication or others while bf? How have you reconciled your need for medical treatment with your need to feed your child safely?

Have you looked at the factsheets from the breastfeeding network? If there's nothing there about the specific drug, try contacting them- there is a pharmacologist called Wendy Jones who can advise. www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-factsheets/

Listen to the doctor and the pharmacist over the packet insert. There are never any studies to say a drug is 'safe in breastfeeding women' because drugs aren't trialled in BF women but the vast majority of medications can be taken safely in BF if needed. Packet inserts always say that basically, its arse-covering. Both a doctor and a pharmacist have told you it's fine.
