Editor's Comment on Breast Feeding in "Glamour" Magazine

In her Editor's Letter at the fron of this months issue Jo Elvin refers to a converstation with Mylene Klass about pregnancy and babies.

She makes a flippant comment along the lines of "So does BF ruin your boobs" "Um, Yeah".

I read this in total shock. Is it just me or is that a totally irresponsible thing for a young woman in such a high profile position to say? I BF my DS for well over a year and I would say that I still have pretty perky breasts thank you very much. I feel that the comment she made was misjudged and it would be very sad if such a comment puts women off BF. Surely young women in the media should be actively encouraging BF not making comments like that.

I admit that most people woudl not consider glamour magazine to be the first place to look for advice on BF put if that flippant comment puts even one woman off BF when she may otherwise have done so then it is a real shame.

I have just cancelled my subscription to Glamour for various reasons (mainly as it really does not reflect my lifestyle as a 30 something single mum who works full time and barely has time to pluck her eyebrows but there you go)

What we need is a topless photo of myleene for one of the lads mags demonstrsating the 'damage' (which I'm sure is non-exitent judging by the look of her on the cover#0.

Look at it another way, mainstream sleb breastfeeding. Also, most people feel a bit crappy about their appearance immediately post-natal. The comment is more supportive for young women than the ' I waved my boob at my baby now I'm a size zero (so these heifers you see walking about are just losers)' school of sleb wisdom

I think you are right butter, I am sure I have heard anecdotal evidence from bottle feeders that their breasts lost shape or perkiness from pregnancy rather than from BF.

The comment just annoyed me as it was so flippant and final as if to say that all the BF does is ruin your breasts. THAT IS WHAT YOUR BREASTS ARE FOR YOU KNOW.

Sigh

There was an article in Eve about holywood wet nurses which was most interesting. One woman could just BF any baby at the drop of a hat - milk tastic. In my case it was blood, sweat and tears get produce enought milk to feed my DS. Anyway perhaps Mylene won;t need to BF as she can now pay someone to do it for her
