Has mastitis reduced my supply?

... is this a thing? I'm getting over a bout of mastitis affecting both boobs. Previously had a copious supply, and DD would feed for max 10 mins on each side. Since the mastitis started she's been feeding 10-20 minutes on each side. I've just expressed to replace a feed while she's out with my partner, and I've barely got 4oz, which is much less than I'm used to. My letdown was really fast as well, and again, this seems to have slowed.

Has anyone else experienced this? Help!

Yes I had this. However I kept feeding and pumped whenever I could and my supply returned. I did also use formula to get through this period as was finding breastfeeding very difficult but if you find it ok then you probably don’t have to use formula as well, but it was a good tool for me. Good luck. Mastitis is bloody awful!

Yes I’ve had mastitis several times over two babies, and supply always dropped on the affected breast. It usually picks up within a few days, and baby feeding for longer will be putting the order in with your boobs how much to make. Be really vigilant now about keeping milk flowing well as you can be more prone to blockages in the same places. Lots of massage and making sure latch is good.

Thank you both! I think my supply has picked up again, but it still doesnt feel quite the same. I'll keep eating porridge and drinking lots of water!

Mastitis is really no walk in the park hey? To be honest, this has felt like the last straw in our angsty BF journey - I'd probably have given up and switched to formula by now but DD refuses a bottle Confused
