HELP with breast pump

Hi Girls,

I really hope you can help me!

I have just bought an Ameda Purely Yours breast pump (british version is called ameda lactaline) on Ebay. I am not sure it is working properly. I have read many reviews on this pump and they all say to be careful because if you put it on full whack it can be very painful!. I have tested this one and it doesn't seem that strong to me. and it also seems to be strong one minute them hardly anything the next. I am still pregnant and can't see if it pumps milk. The naughty person that sold it to me did not send any instructions (and also didn't tell me it only had an American power supply, but that is another story). Have I just wasted £40. Hope someone out there can help me.

Thanks

Fiona

It probably works - IME they´re only painful when you use them for a long time (although I don't have that make). Also they do pump stronly for a few seconds and then not - they need to do that to let your milk ducts fill up again.

Don't worry just yet!

I don't recall the lactaline fluctuating - isn't that the Medela double-pump? - but the thing is, you're not going to know how it's doing till you actually are lactating. I suggest you ring the main Ameda line on 01823 336362 - they're quite helpful - for a chat. HTH!

Oh yes, they do go Pump Pump Pump, but the Medela actually has this new mechanism which is meant to fluctuate to simulate a baby's sucking, whereas the Ameda you vary the Pump Pump yourself IWYSWIM.

Thanks so much, think I will wait and see, not much else I can do!

ok, i've finally sorted out a room to express in, nearly brave enough to give ds a bottle and I've made sure that the nursery is happy for me to drop off milk in their fridge during the day but.......

which breast pump to use? thought i might get an Ameda lactaline dual pump or possibly a medela electric pump, not the mini one. this has probably been discussed somewhere else on here but anyone got an opinion? I have a avent hand pump but think it might be too slow, only have a couple of short breaks during the day.

totally didn't mean to add that on this thread! was going to start another thread, whoops!

I am sure I've written this before! I've got an Ameda Lactaline. It's great. Having said that, it's been replaced twice. But Ameda people are VERY helpful and the machine was changed straight away with no issue at all.
