5 month and one week old. Can I do BLW?

Before I get shot down and ripped to pieces, I know the guidelines state ‘around 6 months’. But I think my boy is ready. He sits unaided on the floor without holding on to anything or even putting his hands down for over 5 minutes, we sit him in his high chair and let him play with a spoon and his head control is very good in it. He constantly tries to grab what we are eating and put it into his mouth. He’s also got very accurate hand to mouth co-ordination. I want to do BLW, could I possibly start him now on some finger foods, just fruits and vegetables like avocado, pear, mango and banana and let him have a play/feel/taste? While we eat our meal.

Have you posted the same question somewhere else OP? It seems very familiar.

The six month thing is questionable.

For example, read:

(I weaned all mine from when they seemed ready which was about 5mo in all cases).

I did BLW with DS when he was 5 ½ months. Like your DC he was able to sit without support and was able to feed himself barons of soft fruit and vegetables from the outset. He was also dropping down the centiles weight-wise despite breastfeeding on demand every 2 hours 24/7! He was a very active baby - crawled on the day he turned 7 months and by the point at which we introduced solids was pushing himself around the floor on his tummy.

One of the benefits of BLW is that if you present them with chunks of soft food and they are able to pick them up, put them in their mouth, chew and swallow without gagging and go back for more, that has to be a pretty good indicator that they are ready to start on solids!

Give it a go- but let your DC do the work. If they are not ready they will not eat.
