Best bottle for bottlefeeding

I have an 8 day old baby and today when he was weighed he had lost a tiny amount of weight since he was last weighed at 5 days. For medical reasons I am having to bottle feed my son, and our midwife has said the weight loss could be because we are using the Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles. He’s feeding well and taking in a good amount of formula, but apparently the teats on these bottles can make it hard for the baby to get formula and he could be using more calories trying to drink the formula than he is gaining from the formula itself. My problem is which bottle or teat should I use? The midwife showed me an example of a good teat to use which was the Medela bottle, but I’ve read that this is designed for breast feeding babies which mine isn’t. I’ve tried using Nuk first choice tonight but he hasn’t done too well with this one. Has anyone else had this issue? Can anyone recommend a good bottle or teat that is easy for the baby to get formula from? Apart from the minor weight loss he’s a healthy baby and the midwives have no other concerns

Congratulations on your bubs. We used Mam bottles and found them the best after trying loads of other brands x

MAM anti colic bottles are great. I've used them after ds didn't get on with the tommee tippee ones and they've been fab.
Always hear good reviews of them too.

They are a bit of a faff to wash because they totally dismantle, but worth the extra washing up I'd say.
Also they self sterilise in the microwave

Another vote for the Mam anti-colic bottles!

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. Another vote for mam bottles. Also used avent bottles with no issue but personally prefer the mam ones.

Mam!

Congratulations

The medela ones are so difficult to use and are a bit of a faff. Tommee tippee ones are often too soft. MAM ones are pretty good. I used NUK which we got on well with, currently reduced on amazon I noticed yesterday X

Dr Brown but they too are a faff to clean.

Congratulations! Yet another vote for MAM here. We started off with tommee tippee and my baby had problems feeding with them for some reason so switched to MAM after reading reviews. We've had no issues with them at all so would recommend trying. Hope you find the right bottles for you and your baby!

Another vote for mam. Started with tommee tippee and they gave DD bad wind.

Congratulations. We are BF but also expressing. Mam bottles are good and great to clean and can be self sterilised in the micro, BUT you do have to be careful to put together tightly otherwise baby wears the milk! The smallest size I’ve seen is 160 ml which is far too much for a newborn

We also also an avent one after a major leak incident, not so easy to clean or sterilize but comes in 60ml version

Dr Browns were nothing short of a miracle for my windy, refluxy, tiny DD 👍🏻

Penguin34 · 31/03/2019 23:30

Dr Browns changed our lives!

I think we tried 5 or 6 types and tommee yippee we're by far the worst

I don't find them a pain to clean either
