Have I left it to late?? 😢

Ok, so I had a quite traumatic pregnancy and birth and have since been diagnosed with pregnancy PTSD. During my full pregnancy I was adamant that I was breast feeding and was always scoffed at by my MIL. I had my c section 6 days ago and have an amazingly beautiful baby girl! I had a bad time in theatre and was quite ill afterwards so felt very pressured into formula bottle feeding. She is now 6 days old and I'm utterly heartbroken that I never even gave breast feeding a go and feel like we have both missed out on such an amazing experience! My boobs are still solid and achey and have leaked quite a bit so I was just wondering if I've left it to late to even try combined feeding?

Get that baby on the boob! The more you feed the more you will lactate.

Top up with formula but express and feed as much as you can.

Contact your local breastfeeding group- NCT might have a list or try LaLeche league.

However don’t put too much pressure on yourself.

You can most definitely give it a go, and it will ease the acheyness, certainly not too late at this stage. Are you still in hospital? If so ask if you can have someone come and help you get started, be it midwife or lactation consultant. Equally don't feel bad if it doesn't work out, you've had such a tough time and you need to be kind to yourself, congratulations on your little one Flowers

There is no harm in trying.. get that baby on ASAP.. u can work up a supply and then maybe ditch the formula

Best of luck and congratulations

I remember your other thread, congratulations on your new arrival! I had problems with feeding to begin with and we were mainly formula feeding for the first two weeks and since then she's been exclusively breastfed.

Are you getting visits from the community midwife? Tell her you want to try breastfeeding and see if she can get you a loan of a hospital breast pump. Our midwife brought us one after 8 or 9 days and it made a big difference!

In the mean time others will have better advice, but there's no harm in trying! Maybe watch a couple of YouTube videos about latching and positioning if you need some tips, and try to find a breastfeeding support group in your area for some hands on support if your community midwife isn't as helpful as you might like!

Good luck!

You are still under the care of your midwife for the first 10 days I'm sure, phone her asap and they will arrange support. Good luck
