Have 7 wk DS after c section, have battled on with breast feeding after really struggling, just got back form GP and I need to go into hospital urgently because I'm still bleeding and they want to do a D&C. Really worride about it effecting breast feeding, Baby can come but will need to have some milk there incase she needs it whilst I'm under, have expressed a little but not sure its enough. Worride about her having a bottle then not wanting me !!! Please help I'm so upset I don't want to stop feeding her. I had to fight my DP attitude and outlaws opions to carry on.

I was told to express both sides when I came round from the GA and tip it away, then feed as usual after that. My dd was was fine, she had what I'd managed to express in the couple of hours after the ambulance was called and before being put under (not many oz!) and then just made up for it once I was feeding her again. She didn't need any formula, although my dh did have to syringe feed her the ebmilk as she was under a wk old and wouldn't take a bottle teat.

They told me they'd used a different GA to usual because I was adamant about continuing to bf, it might be worth asking about when the anaesthatist (sp?) comes round.

There is no reason why you cannot breastfeed as soon as you like after a GA. I am a midwife and we have women regularly breast feeding after GA. I personally was sterilised under GA when DD was 3 months old and I did not discard any milk.

You certainly do not need to wait 6 hours before breastfeeding. I assume you are not going back to the maternity unit for your D&C?

Sorry had to do school run. No it's not a maternity ward Day unit for eary preg and obstectrics. There is a long time from midnight, when i can't eat or drink to 9am won't that effect my milk supply? Thats if they do it then they have said it could be later.

Not eating or drinking will have no effect on your supply, ruby.
