Hi,

Would appreciate any tips or ideas. I have to go to work for 5 hours tomorrow, my DS is 8 months old, BF and still won’t take a bottle.

My DH is having him tomorrow, I have expressed 10oz as I have no idea how much he drinks but we have had no luck getting him to take it from a bottle.

He will drink water from a little cup and he is a pretty good eater. I have made/stocked up on all his favs.

If he doesn’t take any milk do you think food and water will be ok for 5 hrs? I will give him a massive first feed as he’s always really hungry when he wakes up.

I’m so worried about leaving him 😥

Food and water will be fine at 8 months when it's just for a few hours. Will he take milk from the same cup he has his water from? How often does he normally BF?

Don't worry, he'll be absolutely fine for a few hours with food and water and he'll have a lovely feed when you get back. Best of luck with your work!

He will be absolutely fine....even if he drinks NOTHING and refuses all food, he will still be fine.
You, however, will be an utter wreck until you get back and feed him again.

Such is the role :) Flowers

I'm back at work with a 9 months old. She goes up to about 12 hours with no milk, but she also can't drink anything from cups or bottles. My husband/nursery just have to give her food with a high water content, like cucumber or fruit, and then I feed her as soon as I get home.

Before going back to work the longest she'd gone was 4 hours but she soon adjusted because she had to.

I did a KIT day when my EBF baby was 5mo and the little horror utterly refused a bottle and didn't drink for 8 hours. No water, no solids.

When I got back he had a big feed and was totally fine. He didn't even wake more in the night.

Your baby will be 100% all right even if he doesn't touch a drop of milk.

My baby boy is 7 months and I had to leave him for 9hrs. He won’t drink from a bottle either. We gave him his lunch and breakfast with lots of milk mixed in. And water inbetween.

They should be able to go all night without eating (other babies can sleep for 12hrs apparently!) so 5hrs is physiologically totally do-able.
You just have to try and switch off and not worry!

He'll be fine...you have everything prepared in advanced. Maybe think about what he'll be doing with his dad...activities, toys, books, going out for a bit, if he's busy he may not think about you as much. I remember being in this position when LO was 5 months... I messaged his dad every hour to check up ... he never replied on the last hour and I started to panic called never picked up neither...all sorts started running through my head...left work straight away, got home to fine both of them conked out on the sofa snoring with the house looking a shit tip...be prepared for that lol...youll be fineSmile

Thank you SO much ladies!!! Your brilliant and I do feel a little better now.

He does still feed quite a bit, he will be missing 4 feeds ( 2x to go to sleep and 2x when he wakes up) but he’s likely to only have 1 nap in his push chair rather than the 2 naps he’d have with me.

They are going to baby soft play.

I’m going to be a mess when I leave, I still can’t believe I have to leave him! The smile I get when he sees me after will make me forget it all though
