hey wo! Here again eh? Oh it just goes on and on for us doesn't it!! You're doing so well hanging in there.

Ok, so I thought I had thrush in milk ducts (severe pain after feeding etc) and was in a complete FIGHT with the docs to try to get fulconazole, they didn't want to give it AT ALL and were taking it to the PCT etc. HV on the off chance, suggested doing tests on a swab and milk sample just to confirm it was thrush and the milk sample came back with confirmation of a bacterial infection, not thrush at all. So I actually needed erithromycin (sp!!??) And fluconazole would have done me no good at all. Then I spoke to a bf counsellor and she said bacterial infections are often misdiagnosed as thrush. Have you had some milk tested. If you're still in pain sounds like it could be the same for you??

Or did they give you the right dose of fluconazole (I'm assuming that's what they gave you???) Have you taken it long enough??

if it's your latch I expect that would give you sore nipples rather than pain in your breast??

weeonion · 02/07/2007 22:05

hey eca the fun continues!!!!

i have been given nystatin to take along with daktarin gel to put on the nipples ( and i have to rub them with vineagr as well! - poor dd will think there's fish and chips to follow??)

i never thought of a bacterial infection - i cant seem to get rid of this tho' so i will see how this course goes and then ask....

the reason i said latch - is that i am stillnot sure i am getting it right. the we madam still doesnt open her mouth wide and comes off maybe 6-7 times per feed ( bloody nightmar tryign to get her on these big boobs for nightime feeds so maybe not as diligent abotu the latch as i shoudl be.)

i read somewhere that a poor latch can lead to thrush ??

poor latch can lead to cracked nipples wich can in turn lead to thrush being introduced, but a poor latch won't cause thrush IYSWIM. I suffered with deep seated thrush with DD, burning pain after feeding as if breast was on fire. It took two courses of Fluclonizole to clear. Also yeast/suga free diet and I took acidophillus (available from health food stores). Hoping you feel better soon

laundrylover · 02/07/2007 22:15

The only thing that zapped my thrush was taking citricidal tablets. I took Exspore (bought off the web) but you can get at health food shop I think. I had a right old time of it with thrush with DD2, my sis even bought me flucon back from Cambodia as I couldn't get it prescribed. Anyway it didn't cure it but the Exspore did.

Worth a try for pain free feeding - still going at 15 months.

Poor latch can also mean that your baby isn't removing milk as efficiently as they should so you might be experiencing pain from engorgement & it's associated problems/complications. Have your sought any help with the latching issues?

I had bad thrush and both times fluconazole thwarted it within days.I didn't change my diet at all.Deep sympathy,it is a shite experience.

weeonion · 02/07/2007 23:19

thanks folks for all the info and advice. not sire if it is thrush now- but i also need to get the latch sorted. we have had probs from day with it so might be back to it again. my boobs end up as hard as the road between alot of feeds and i sometimes have to get up to express off milk about 1/2 hr before a feed. have spoken to local bf specialist and hope to get to see her later in the week.

no sugar?? no yeast?? oh lordy!! what is there left in my cupboard

Christ, after 9 mths sober, would have gone mad if someone had suggested cutting out wine 9only real weakness) I would not have been able to carry on b/feeding through many trials and tribulations without large quantitiies of Bordeaux and Chablis to anaesthetise me.
