Extended bfeeding - have you lost weight?

I'm still bfeeding, dd is 14 months, and am now really quite skinny although I stuff my face at every opportunity. I also feel quite tired, though I'm not sure whether this is down to the feeding or the running around after a toddler. Interested to know about other extended bfeeders. Is it usual to lose a lot of weight?

I lost all the excess I gained in preg and must have used up some energey with extended bf on demand as I ate loads and still fitted my clothes!! If you're feeling tired then a blood test could check for anemia.

I lost loads of weight after ds was fully on three meals + snacks a day (around 10 months). I think when you are the main source of food, your body keeps some fat stores just in case. When the baby no longer needs you so much for food, the fat drops off.
I went from a size 14 to a size 10-12. so plumpish to slimish

i lost TONS of weight breastfeeding. except lately....
DS is 21 months and still BF quite a bit. and i've put on a stone or 2...
i got a taste for cake suring that first year and now i can't eat as much as i like!

I lost weight while bfing - then put it back on since I stopped. Also bfing is very tiring, I didn't realise until I stopped, then suddenly got a lot of energy back.

Yes - went down to a stone under usual weight despite eating like a pig. I am naturally thin so looked a bit too skinny tbh. It's creeping back on now though.

never found bf tiring - quite the opposite

I found i was a bit tired too - DS is 15months now, but i think that is the sleepy hormones that you get as you're breastfeeding, with me anyway. I do obviously suffer terribly when i have to have a nap with DS... And the eating all the time thing, i do that too. I never lost weight when i used to be mad and eat a cereal bar and apple a day but since DS it's cake all the time for me and no weight gain - bit worried about when i stop!

As i gve dd a feed at her bed time, i find it particularly difficult to stay awake after that feeding to get on with the housework. Always dropping off to sleep and waking up at midnight.

There's nothing nicer than an afternoon nap though is there?

No if anything I have gained weight in the last year .....but that's just me & not the bfing tbh

Why not use something like this www.fitday.com for a week or so & see how your calories in compares to your exercise & activity? That way you can see if you simply need to eat more or get down to your GP for some tests....If you are eating more calories than you are using & still losing weight that needs to be investigated imo....excl bfing only uses an extra 500 calories so bfing a toddler probably wouldn't use that much.
