9mth old breastfed on demand...how to slowly stop?

ive now nightweaned (wayhey!) and im slowly slowly cutting down until i want to stop completely in October, when he is a year.
but he's breastfed on demand, so its not like he does 4 feeds a day, and i can drop one feed a month. all the advise ive read seems to cater for those who have scheduled feeding. anyone had any experience of cutting back of feeding on demand, without replacing with formula, and would they like to share their tips with me?!

I would keep a note of how often he feeds - it may be more regular than you think. Also you may find he self weans anyway.

sorry feeding dd while typing - she's same age and I thought I was bfing on demand but when I kept notes for a few days it turned out she was only feeding every four hours.

you could try limit the places where you feed rather than the times.
So no feeds in public places, then no feeds at friends houses, then no feeds downstairs. Offer water or warm cows milk instead.
This would leave you with just feeds first thing in the morning and then last thing at night. You ds should have enough in those two to see him through to the year

wow! thanks for quick response! do you really think just 2 feeds would be enough?
i will start to keep a record, i did at the beginning of the whole bf thing, and it did seem to follow some pattern.
think the limiting places is a good idea. im too shy to bf on bus now anyway, cos i got into a fight recently with a horrible old woman who started complaining to everyone else, and to my shame, shes won!
Re: giving cows milk as drink, i thought advice was not to?
and thanks again everyone.

It will take you over 2 months i'd guess to get down to 2 feeds and by that stage you will be close to year cut off.

My guess is he will only have a few mouthfuls of cows milk so it won't be enought to put him off his proper food or stop him feeding from you later which is the real danger of giving cows milk as a drink in the first year.

good luck
