Lactose intolerant?

Has anyone had a LO with lactose intolerance? If so, what were the symptoms and how was it eventually recognised and diagnosed by the doctors?

My LO is 10 weeks old and since she was 10 days old, she has struggled with her tummy. She is unable to poo herself and needs help from me to manoeuvre it out of her through massage, pushing up her knees etc.
On top of that however, she suffers terribly with bottom wind, always seems to be full of it and can pass wind up to 20 times just from 2oz of a bottle. This obviously makes her uncomfortable, fists are always clenched, knees drawn up to her chest and it means she rarely settles for a proper sleep. She will either store up her poo and it all come out at once or she will poo every feed but it is purely water and shooting out like a hosepipe (sorry TMI). There are also white clumps in it and she will scream as it's coming out.

I have tried everything, infacol, gripe water, anti colic bottles, changed formula from SMA to aptamil, colief, still all with no difference made. I have recently changed her over to the lactose free formula and already after 2 days there is a massive difference in her. I have been to the doctors but they seem very unconcerned and unwilling to do tests as they say it's very uncommon that she has an intolerance. Has anyone else had the same with their LO and what have doctors said and done about it?

It would be extremely unusual for a baby to have lactose intolerance OP but an Allergy to Cow’s Milk Protein (CMPA) is quite common. Has anyone discussed the possibility of CMPA with you Smile

No the doctors just seem completely disinterested but obviously it's so hard to see your baby struggling and uncomfortable so much!
Do you know what kind of symptoms I could expect if it was a CMPA?

It must be really hard when they don't listen to you. Have a read of this from Allergy UK.

I'd film her too when she's upset so that you can show the GP. It would be pretty normal if she was settled and happy at the appointment and screaming for the rest of the time 🙂

If she's suffering this weekend, have you got a Walk-in Centre bear to you?
