Sleeping worse since weaning

Basically what the subject says... started weaning our little girl about ten days ago, she’ll be six months a week today and her sleep has been awful since we started. She’s never been the best sleeper but this last week has been awful. Waking every 40 minutes to an hour and a half, I eventually get her in my bed around 4 but she’s still quite restless although she does sleep better. So my question is can weaning affect sleep? I know it will take a while for her stomach to adjust but I’m thinking now that maybe I should stop for a few days to a week and see how she gets on. A bit worried I was over feeding her or feeding too late in the day and this is where the problems have been. Any help would be great!

What is she eating in a day? There might be some things in there causing the sleep disturbances.

@teddyisahe yesterday she had carrot and broccoli and porridge and banana and her sleep last night was the worst it’s been. I know it’s not hunger waking her up as she had her last bottle at 7.30pm and woke up 3 times between then and 11pm

Yes, I'd definitely stop for a few days. When you start again, just feed her once a day for a while. They don't have to move to 3 meals until they reach at least 8 months so there no rush Smile

I’m In the same situation. Mine is six months. He dropped his night feed about 2 months ago and we started him on solids 3 weeks ago. He wakes up every hour pretty much. On a good night he will sleep from 7-10pm to feed and might go back to midnight. Then he’s up every hour. It started when he dropped his night feed and has got worse since solids. I know he isn’t hungry because he screams the house down if he is hungry and isn’t that interested in eating when he gets up. We think it is teeth related though. He showed no signs of teething but last week we found not one but two teeth. The last few nights I’ve given him teething gel and if that failed calpol and he has got a bit better. Annoying thing is that he was a good sleeper. He used to only wake up once between 11pm and 6 am. Didn’t know I was born!

Yes, starting solids definitely disrupts sleep for many babies. It completely changes their digestion and can cause a lot of wind. There’s no rush before 6 months (it’s an awful lot of work, I would put it off until you really need to start). But when you do, just one meal a day for a few weeks will help ease into it.

Teething often starts around the same time too and the combination of the two of them can be really miserable.
