Stages of weaning- confused!

My 7mo DD doesn't like to be spoon fed so I've been trying finger foods but I keep reading how I should be introducing fruit and veg one by one (rather than say, a fritter with a mix).

So my main question is: should I wait until she's happy with individual ingredients before mixing?

Also I'm confused about dairy- I thought I shouldn't introduce cows milk until she's 1 but then I see baby recipes with milk and other dairy in.

Such a mine field.

If there is no history of allergies then I wouldn't be as worried about giving more than one food at once. Milk is ok in food and cereal from 6 months but isn't suitable as the main drink until 1 year

The point of giving one food at a time is so it's easy to identify if there's allergies or intolerances but to be frank unless you give only one food for a couple of days it's tough to narrow down minor intolerances as opposed to severe allergies. Milk and dairy is fine from 6 months as part of food but breast milk or formula for drinks until 12 months (full fat is best but my dd had semi skimmed until she was drinking milk at 1yo as she wasn't getting through enough to warrant buying it, and didn't do her any harm).

Oh right! So the one-at-a-time tactic is to be able to see intolerances. I thought it was to develop their pallet or something! 😂

Good to have clarity on the dairy thing too. So full day milk is best rather than skimmed (is this because skimmed is more processed or something? Or is it to give baby healthy fats?)

Cheese- I read to be careful for certain ones because of salt contact but what's best? Cheddar? I know to avoid blue cheese/bacteria.

Full fat is advised until age 2 - more fat and vitamins. Hard cheeses are fine and things like spreadable cheese are ok too. Dd loved anything in a cheese sauce but ds hated it

FairfaxAikman · 19/01/2019 20:49

The only things to avoid are honey before the age of one (botulism risk) and whole nuts before five (choking risk), big apart from that you can just feed the same as you are eating.

There's some good baby led weaning groups on Facebook.

I think mouldy cheese should be avoided until 1yo but otherwise go for it with cheese.

If you cook the blue cheese it would be fine to use for e.g. in a blue cheese sauce (not something we ever made tbh)
