I have read that, when you have blocked ducts, you should pump after bfing to 'empty the breasts' and minimise the chances of milk gathering where it shouldn't. But how do you know when your breasts are empty? and isn't there a risk that by pumping after baby has fed, you are giving the message to the boobs that more milk is needed, and so risk engorgement (and more blocked ducts)?? I really don't get this empty breast thing.
Help!

hmmm not sure but i was advised to masssage the breasts by rubbing in circular movements and stroking down towards the nipple to release blocks WHEN feeding. Should be enough to stop build ups forming. rub especially where u can feel a lump, they do disperse straight away during a feed, i find, when massaged

It's better to massage the lumps while feeding, or get your baby to feed with its chin at the lump, iyswim.

The advice Egypt gave is what we were taught to give I think.
