Sorry if tmi, but question about poo in breastfed baby.

Sorry if tmi, but, ds used to go several days between poos, as much as a week sometimes. But the last five days he's done one, sometimes two, a day. And on his weigh-in on Thursday he lost two ounces. He is alert, feeding well, seems happy enough (for him) between feeds and is alert, his fontenelle (sp?) is not sunken or anything like that, and he has plenty of wet nappies.

He is still breastfed, so why would this change all of a sudden? Is the excessive pooing linked to his weight loss?

He is eleven wks old. His poos are the colour and consistancy of chip-shop curry sauce. Sorry I guess that really is tmi!

It sounds like one of those things. I wouldn't worry about it, tbh. Oh, and I'd get him weighed less often, too.

Seriously, I bet one of the poos weighed less than two oz, so some variation in weight is understandable.

Yes I'm taking him back next week as hv said she wanted to check on him, but after that I'm going fortnightly!!

I wondered if it was something I ate getting into my milk, but I'm not sure if it works like that or not.

It sounds like a small tummy bug, maybe? Unlikely to be something you ate, unless five days ago you went on a special only-cabbage-and-offal sort of diet or something? And even then, it's probably not your diet causing it.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/06/2007 12:08

I appear to be suffering from a sudden attack of uptalking? I don't know what is causing this?

Mossy · 30/06/2007 12:09

No, no cabbage and offal! I've cut down on bread and sugar in an effort to shed a few pounds, but nothing weird or unusual!

Lol at the uptalking?

I think it might just be One of Those Things. Babies are weird. My first one used to do a good line in unexplained partial paralysis. We never worked out what the hell that was all about!

Mossy · 30/06/2007 12:19

Crikey that must have been scary!

Yes, weighed fortnightly is a far better idea!

Or you could try treating him like a second baby - get him weighed for his jabs?

Seriously, if you're enjoying the baby clinic thing, then go, but if you don't enjoy it, don't go.

I like chatting with the other Mums in the waiting room, although sometimes it gets a bit competitive! Especially with the bf Mums. Ds is a slow gainer and some of the others are putting on a pound a week or whatever, and they say it like it's a badge of honour.

Actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure I do enjoy it that much.

Are there coffee mornings or drop in groups or baby massage or baby yoga classes you could be at instead?

Mossy · 30/06/2007 12:29

Oh I already do the rounds! I'm a Mums and Babies tart, really I am! Baby massage, baby signing (okay he's rather too young for it but it gets me out of the house!) coffee afternoon and breastfeeding clinic. But my Thursdays are empty so weigh-in fills it up...

I think I should find something else going on on a Thursday, either that or set up a regular date with a friend!!

Some of the mums around here have a running club, they meet in the park, with buggies, and take turns going running and minding the babies.

Mossy · 30/06/2007 12:34

I quite like that... although a walking club might be a bit better for me!

I've heard of mothers getting together in a group to go for a walk and a talk in the park.
