What did you do when your dc started biting when breastfeeding?

DD2 is now 6 months, she hasn't cut any teeth yet but you can see that the gums are swollen. She has taken to biting me after she has fed for a while and I have reacted by unlatching her and telling her not to do it in a firm voice.

Should I leave it for about 15 mins before I let her feed again?

or what?

Any suggestions?

just remove her and then start again. FWIW, DS stopped biting (or rather nipping) once his teeth had come through.

sort this out quickly as you don't want to get a bite when the teeth do come out. My DS bit me and I had to hold his nose to get him to release......

my ds did it once (with teeth) and without thinking i just yelped. think this was enough he never did it again (b-f until 13 mths)

Watching with interest! Ds seems to think it is a grand idea to clamp down with those gums of his and shake his head around

I think my nipples have just inverted reading this.

Ds, with teeth, once bit and turned his head to look at something. I had no idea nipples stretched that far. Ouch.

On a serious note, I tried nipple shields - if he bit, I put one on. He didn't like that, so after a couple of times he must have got the idea, as he stopped doing it.

If she bites, pull her tightly in towards you. This will hurt you much less than yanking her away! It may also startle her into letting go. A sharp "No" at the same time is a good idea. If she does it again then do the same things but put her down for a few minutes or even end the feed.

My dd bit me a few times when she started getting teeth, but once I started doing this, and also learned what triggered the biting, she stopped and never bit me again trhoughout all the teething. What triggered the biting was me trying to persuade her to feed when she wasn't all that interested, whtether at the begining or the end of a feed.

I shouted no looked stern and released his latch and stopped the feed. It took about 2 days to sort and then never again

Press her face into your boob (gently but firmly) and she will let go. My ds has done this when teething for the last three months.

It only lasts a couple of days at a time but now that he's got 6 teeth it makes me very nervous...

my son did this and i think it hurt more with gums than teeth ! i used to do the same as saffymum gently close babies nostrils (ok pinch nose!)they have to let go of the nipple or they cant breath sounds cruel but being bit aint much fun either used to firmly tell him "no" too
