Aptamil

Hello all,
I’m v lucky in that my mostly breast-fed baby has no issues taking a bottle. I’ve never had a lot of success with expressing, so every so often since he was a couple of weeks old he’s had a bottle of Aptamil.

As he was having so little, we’ve been buying the ready-mixed aptamil bottles, but we’re looking to switch to buying the powder and making it up ourselves.

I’ve heard that Aptamil powder changed recently and not in a good way.

Are any of you still using it? Are there any issues with it? Would we be better switching to a different brand?

We've used Aptamil and had no problems but we switched to cow and hate because it was cheaper, there doesn't seem to be any difference!

Aptamil is one of the most expensive ones. I'd choose a cheaper one tbh. Once a tub is opened it needs using within 1 month.

Personally preferred aldi mamia, was less frothy, we switched from Aptamil at around 4 months

We use Aldi mamia (aptamil premade for first 6 weeks) there's basically no difference in the ingredients and I always think it smells much creamier. Still use the odd premade if out and forget flask etc with no issues

In my opinion Aptamil is the best, if you run out you can get it from just about anywhere by us. Other brands can be trickier to get.

How can you say aptamil is the best? Have you tried all the others?

Over the years I have tried SMA, Cow and Gate, Mamia and Aptamil.

Aptamil being the best one for my children by far 🤷‍♀️

Dd had sma. Ds had aptamil but then we swapped to cow and gate as it was cheaper. It's made by the same manufacturer as aptamil but less expensive

Aptamil profutura has nearly double the amount of omega 3 and omega 6 than the other brands out there.

Also it's the only milk that contains phospholipid bound LCPs..which is what you get in breast milk.

I done a lot of research in formula, because I couldn't breast feed and felt an overwhelming guilt I couldn't, so wanted to make sure I got the best I could for them both 😊

We are mixed feeding and had no issues with aptamil but have swapped to Aldi's own Mamia brand as it has to contain the same ingredients by law and is only £6.99. It helps whilst I'm on mat leave and money is tight.

Aptamil is really good at marketing! Just because they add all the ingredients doesn't mean they are all necessary

IME aptimel profutura is the best nutritionally. DD is now completely bottle fed so it was more of a concern. I contacted a few companies to ask questions about their formula as a lot of the scientific names on the box didn't really make the difference clear. Cow & gate and SMA both meet the minimum nutritional standards but that's about it. Aptimil does a bit better but the profutura has more omega 3&6 per 100ml so to be it was well worth paying the extra few quid.

I would prefer to pay a couple of pound extra and have the extra vitamins, minerals and fatty acids..but each to their own 🤷‍♀️
