Developmental stages & feeding

Hi all
My baby has been very fussy at the boob for the last 9 days. She is 6 weeks tomorrow and according to the wonder weeks app she is going through a major developmental stage. (She was 13 days late.) Some feeds she latches on and feeds perfectly well as before but most often she pulls off, her latch is shallow and it's both very painful and frustrating. She has one bottle per day at 10-11pm and has done so since 2 weeks. I'm wondering if anyone else's babies were fussy around this time/stage? I don't think she would suddenly prefer bottle to boob now, and she can still feed perfectly well at times. Just looking for some experience/advice TIA

There is a massive growth spurt at 6 weeks and she will be cluster feeding. I would just keep alternating breasts when she comes of. She will be trying to stimulate more milk to come in. For shallow latch just keep taking her of and putting her back on again. I'm sure you knownyou can break seal by putting your small finger into babies mouth. There could also be some bottle preference going on. Particularly as she is in a leap and having a growth spurt. The milk comes easily and fast from a bottle. Do you do paced feeding? That might help. Kellymom pages has lots of info on it.
I'm on day 12 and the cluster feeding is killing me Sad

It is possible that she's perfected latching to the bottle and now gets confused latching onto you. You say this isn't all of the time so perhaps just when she is more tired.

My baby did get fussy in the evenings and would bob on and off but the latch was still not painful. Is there a reason for the bottle? If you can, I'd stop the bottle for a while until she is older and can handle the switch between bottle and breast better. You can also use lanolin after every feed to soothe any soreness you may have.

Breastfeeding is hard work, I hope my comment is helpful for you. If there's a breastfeeding support group near you they may have more practical advice and can watch you feed.

Thanks for the advice. I went to a breast feeding clinic today and the lady told me that getting the milk suddenly becomes more difficult around the 6 week mark so combined with the growth spurt, this can make babies very fractious at the boob as they have to work a lot harder to get the milk. Thought I'd share in case this might help anyone else x
