FF baby distressed before bowl movements

Just wondered if anyone has any advice! My 10 day old dd is formula fed, we are using cow & gate first infant formula. She feeds really well, no issues taking the bottle at all. She does however become very upset and agitated for quite a while leading up to bowl movements. Her stools are yellow in colour and very soft so I don’t think it’s constipation. We are just struggling as nothing at all will calm her down, we have just had nearly 3 hours of her screaming inconsolably and just changed her 3rd dirty nappy in that time.

I have the midwife coming on Monday so will be speaking to her but just wondered if anyone has any advice/or has experienced the same?

I think discomfort digesting is fairly standard for tiny babies, their digestive systems are getting used to working and it's all a new uncomfortable experience for them.

Have you tried massaging her tummy, clockwise, and bicycling her legs gently? Some babies with digestive discomfort like the tiger in the tree hold. You could also look into paced bottle feeding, keeping her upright after a feed etc in case it's extra wind that's causing the pain.

Thanks assassinated I have tried massaging her tummy but it’s a bit difficult at the moment as her umbilical cord hasn’t come away yet, will be much easier to do effectively once that’s out the way! I will try the bicycling her legs!

She seems to wind quite well but I’ll also try keeping her upright for a bit longer to see if that helps too. It’s just so hard seeing her in such discomfort! Hopefully it’ll pass soon.
