My toddler is suddenly being finicky with his food! Help!

Just that really. Up until recently he would eat whatever we fed him, but suddenly, he's adverse to us feeding him and either won't eat, or just throws his food on the floor.

I tried being a bit clever and buying some veggie fingers in an effort to get some veg into him, but he's cottoned on to this and just throws the veggie fingers onto the floor. This is limiting his diet to things like fish fingers and smiley faces which is fine for a while, but really I want him to start eating better.

I'm trying not to stress about it but I think this is having a knock on effect with his sleep, he wakes every night and will only go back to sleep if he's in with us.

I'm at my wits end and don't know what to do! Please help!

I should probably have mentioned, he's 16 months old.

Totally normal I'm afraid. Keep putting things on his plate but don't stress if he won't eat them. You can sneak veg into him by pureeing veg and adding them to anything with a tomato based sauce. I have a 3 year old and 15 month old who are as bad as each other. Don't make a big deal out of it and one day it will hopefully all come right again!

@scatterbrainedlass thank you! He has never eaten fruit, I've tried countless times but he will eat fruit purée (I think that's a texture thing!) so I usually give him that as his 'pudding' so he's at least getting something that's good for him! He drinks a lot of water during the day so was worried that he was filling himself up on that, but if this is totally normal behaviour, I guess I'll just ride it out! Xx

Just keep offering, but make sure there is something on his plate that he likes. Not ideal, but mine both love baked beans, so they will probably have them 3 times a week! As long as they have eaten a half decent meal they won't take any harm. Asda do mini potato waffles with carrot in them, again it's not massive but it's another way of sneaking veg into them!!
