Breast Engorgement

I'm 5 days PP & breastfed my daughter the first 3 days. I have stop breast feeding due to a number of reasons but mainly due to my supply of milk is so much my boobs went like rock (happened with my first daughter also & didn't breastfeed but my boobs were so full and sore) baby couldn't feed even after expressing - anyway we are both much happier being on the bottle now.

My question is due to my milk supply the engorgment is under my arms & my boobs are like bricks - should I try express for some relief or better to go cold turkey! I'm wearing a bra 24/7 unless I'm in the bath or shower & I have been putting cold cabbage leaves on them every hour or so. Any other advice as it's so uncomfortable would be great - how long does this last?

I've just weaned my 17 month old off the breast last week and my boobs absolutely killed after the first night without feeding. I tried to go cold turkey and thought maybe it would dry up on its own quickly enough, but honestly after a couple of days they got far more painful! I found that getting in a really hot shower and hand expressing made me feel so much better - I think the trick is to just express until you feel comfortable, not to empty yourself out too much if that makes sense!!

My baby girl has now been weaned for a whole week and I've only had to express twice in that time, so I think my supply might be drying up now. Anyway hopefully that helps and you feel much better soon!

Contact a professional for advice. A qualified lactation consultant or someone from la leche league. I believe the NHS have breast feeding consultants too though I could be mistaken. Be careful as you could get mastitis if you don't wean correctly
