How often should baby be feeding

DC, nearly 12wks, has been feeding between 6-9 times per day and having a last feed at around 11pm, one nighttime feed between 3-4am and then waking up around 7am.

Over the last few days, dc discovered his thumb and, as a result, skipped the nighttime feed and slept through until 7am (I woke around feed time and saw him sucking thumb so figure that this is why they didn't wake).

I expected him to be hungrier today due to missing the feed but instead he's only had 5 feeds (from 23.00 last night until 23.00 today- I'll wake him shortly for a feed before going to bed)...he is still having wet nappies/ having periods of being awake & alert but he seems much too small to be having such a small number of feeds over a 24hr period (especially if he sleeps through the night again- not that I am holding my breath for that!).

How often would you say a 12wk old should be feeding? Would you say I should be waking him/offerings more feeds during the day (or waking him during the night)?

If he's gaining weight and looks healthy and alert then just feed on demand and enjoy the sleep while it lasts!

I wouldn't wake at night unless you are worried about your supply but you could try to offer in the day. Maybe he's getting more efficient at getting the milk as he gets bigger? I don't think you need to worry anyway if nappies are ok. If the pattern continues you can always keep an eye on his weight. Some babies do sleep through. My third one did but I kept quiet about it as I knew nobody else would want to hear about it!

Just feed when you think they need it, unless the amount drops a significant amount, I would just feed when they need it, that's what I did with my daughter, we went through a phase of constant feeding for a week lol my boobs were constantly out 😂
