Oversupply & spit up

I am ebf ds and was diagnosed with oversupply as weight gain was slow. Advised to block feed in 3/4bour blocks to get to the fattier hindmilk. I noticed that he was hardly spitting up whereas before he was soaking muslins. The block feeding was a short term measure to regulate the oversupply. Now been told I should go back to feeding off one side then swapping for next feed. But he is spitting up again when I do this. I'm not sure what to do as I want the feeds to stay down but thought block feeding long term was the path to mastitis/blocked ducts /problems.

Has anyone any experience of this? I am tempted to go back to block feeding. Would this be a bad thing?

So confused and stressing out about it all😩. It's making me second guess every decision.

When my DD was about three/four weeks old, and it became clear that I had an oversupply, I originally block fed for about three days to normalise my supply - it took that long for my boobs to START getting the message that I wasn't running a dairy farm. Then I did block feeding every other day or so for the next week.

I still and off block feeding for a day or two whenever my supply starts creeping back up and my DD starts spitting up whole pints again.

If block feeding has been working for you and you haven't previously experienced blocked ducts or other issues then I'd carry on with it. You'll soon notice if you do have a blocked duct!

There isn't a one size fits all for breast feeding. My baby likes both sides in a feed, 10 mins on each (and I do get problems with blocked ducts as he doesn't drain the left one properly). My friend's baby is the same age but only ever has one side at a time. So long as you're comfortable and your baby is thriving, go with what works for you

Thanks for replies. No blocked ducts or mastitis. I felt fuller but not uncomfortably so. Will carry on block feeding as it seems to work for me.

I was giving both sides per feed too but baby was only getting lots of foremilk so lots of green poo, very gassy and slow weight gain.
