Low on milk in the evenings???

I have a lovely 8 week old girl and am exclusively breastfeeding....I had trouble getting started (epidual complications) and had to take herbs and Domperidone tablets as my supply was low...but got the milk supply going after a couple of weeks. She's been putting on 8-9oz a week, until this last week when she put on only 5oz - is this enough???!!! Paranoid it's not enough! My breasts are also really soft and saggy by the evening and I worry there's not enough milk - anyone else have this? She's a bit fretful feeding in the evening - is this cos there's not enough there? How can I tell? They're usually swollen and full again by the morning if this helps....

Your milk supply will lessen in the evening, but it'll still be there . Cluster feeding and fussiness are completely normal: more info here www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/fussy-evening.html

you do have enough just keep feeding her on demand your milk is settling down now
so you wont feel full all the time

in the night you make prolactin so your breasts do feel full in the morning and thats why BF babies feed at night as well

I think putting on 5oz in a week is great as long as she is having wet nappies she is doing great

Sounds normal. I spoke to a BF about this as ds was cluster feeding and getting frantic in the evening and the boobs always felt empty - she said that was normal and that you produce smaller quantities of richer milk in the evenings so they feed more frequently to tank up on it and then have a (relatively) long period of sleep.

Ds is 8 weeks to and growth velocity has tailed off a bit but am not worrying as he's happy, peeing & pooing with gusto.

this happened to me. babies weight start to slow down but she still sounds like she's putting on enough weight, infact a good amount of weight

i was expressing my milk when both my dd's were born and with the morning supply there was more of it but more watery, by the evening less milk but more creamy.

does she sleep well?

Whoops - spoke to a BF *counsellor" is what I meant

Hi - thanks for all the advice - fantastic. makes me feel more confident - it's so easy to worry after a shaky start. She sleeps quite well - what do you reckon?.....

She sleeps roughly from 8/830. Then I try to give her a 'dream feed' at 11pm, although sometimes she is soundly asslep and won't take this. I hear her wriggling, squirming and sometimes moaning a bit around 2/3, then by 4.30am I give up ignoring the wriggling, get her up and feed her.She do=esn't cry, just lies there and wriggles/looks for her thumb/makes noises! She then gets another hour or two if I'm lucky before the 7am feed.

Is this ok?!?! It's so hard without my mum around to help! Feels like the blind leading the blind...!!

perfect you are doing just great be proud of yourself its hard without support well done

Sounds reasonable. I'm co-sleeping so ds tells me he wants fed by wiggling down the bed and nuzzling my chest!! Usually happens around 2 or 3am then 6am. He goes down around 10pm and is up for the day at 8am (would be later I think but dd wakes up then and the house is ruled by a 2 yearold !).

I find things so much easier to cope with if I know it's all normal - thank goodness for MN!!
