Windy baby? Please help!

My 8 day old baby keeps making straining/grunting noises that go on for ages and he goes red, like he's constipated but he definitely isn't. He's having 5+ poos a day that are orange in colour. He's exclusively breastfed by the way. I think he's windy but I don't know how to help him? He's really unsettled and although he's not crying, I can see that he's uncomfortable. I tried to bicycle his legs but that didn't seem to work, how long should I do that for? I've been using infacol before every feed. Could I give him cooled boiled water? Please help me, I hate knowing he's uncomfortable and that I can't help

I should also add that he has been quite sick a couple of times and is sick a little after most feeds.

There are lots of vids on YouTube - do a search for "how to fart a newborn" (seriously 😂) and it'll show you some gentle techniques to try alongside the bicycle legs. Helped me enormously when my baby was born. I knew you had to burp them but had no idea about this!

I don't think the water would help if it is wind. Infacol is good for bringing up burps but doesn't really help the other end unfortunately.

Bringing up a little milk after feeds is normal and can go on a few months, it's called posseting. If a burp bubble gets stuck under some milk this can also bring up a little as you burp the baby. Unless it is huge amounts and he is unhappy while bringing it up I would say it is normal.

It's totally normal and will pass as his digestive system matures.
Both of my children have done this. It's not fun for the parents!

He’s just getting used to the feeling of getting ready to poo. If he’s pooing normally and not crying, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about.

If you want to help him a bit, try tummy massage, there’s vidoes on YouTube, putting him in a sling and walking around or giving him a bath.
