Stopping Expressing

Was wondering if anyone had any tips for stopping expressing breastmilk for my baby without causing too much pain or the dreaded mastitis!

Baby is nearly six weeks now. She's been having breastmilk all day and formula at night since she was 4/5 days old (just breastmilk before that, when she'd actually latch and stay that way!) I currently pump 4 times a day, 40 minutes first thing, half hour around lunchtime, then half hour around 5 and again before bed. I've never needed to pump overnight to maintain a supply which is kind of why I'm asking - I've got loads and loads of milk. So much so that I've got 25 6oz feeds frozen.

I've just about had enough of it now though. My boobs are agony in the mornings, and my nipples are so sore. Plus it's starting to be so restrictive in terms of us getting out and about which isn't fair on my toddler. I expressed for her for six months but had no issues stopping because my supply eventually just dwindled off on its own.

When I've got so much milk like this is it still a case of just cutting down gradually? Or can I start knocking out sessions fairly quickly?

Thanks

I just wound down after nine months of pumping for DS1. I remember being on 2 x 20min pumps for a while. Think it took about three weeks, both dropping duration and frequency every few days.

Good luck!

The current advice is to drop one session every 2 weeks OP. You might want to call one of the Helplines and talk to a BFC about it though as I’m not trained Smile
