Right to breastfeed in public - send the government your comments!

Department for Communities and Local Government is consulting on a new Equalities Bill which would give women the right to breastfeed in public. www.communities.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1002882&Press NoticeID=2440

But you need to make your voice heard as it's out for consultation - if not enough people respond, maybe it won't be seen as important. Email address to send your comments is [email protected]

Great letter bouncingturtle. It's worrying with all the publicity that the impression is being given that it's actually illegal currently to breastfeed.

Bouncingturtle · 13/06/2007 19:03

Thanks, Charlie. And yes that is a very worrying misrepresentation by the media. When it was phrased in that manner yesterday, they had a midwife as one of the panelists and she was very quick to point this out.

SueW · 13/06/2007 19:04

But isn't 'harrassment' illegal anyway?

Bouncingturtle · 13/06/2007 19:08

In this context, unfortunately no. Basically a restaurant or other place has the right to ask you stop BFing, or even leave. This legislation will serve to prevent that.

have emailed, usual points about discreet bf and up to a year being stupid and unnecessary restrictions

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 14/06/2007 09:38

What's that site which talks about the benefits of bf past a year? I want to link it in my e-mail.
