DS is 2 weeks old. I have been on ABs due to infected episiotomy.
3 days ago i noticed his tongue was white. Went to the docs and got daktarin for me and nystatin for him. I had no symptoms.
Yesterday the midwife said i was looking a bit red and auggested inget a 159mg flucanazole tablet which I did.
Today they are really quite tender and itchy and I am terrified its going to get worse and worse.
Any suggestions? Should i be on a longer course of flucanazole?
I have been topless as much as possible today

My experience was 8 years ago.. But.. I was on F a few times for ductal thrush. It was definitely a course for a week or more I am sure... is it your nipples or breast generally that is itchy etc?

blueskiespls · 27/09/2018 16:21

Reading your message back again, I think mine started after antibiotics for same thing. I did have to make a conscious effort to get rid of the thrush. I took some herbal remedy the dr said was fine to take. It sort of counter acts the thrush. The fluconazole, I hot washed bras, muslins etc regularly. Avoided sugar, yeast products. I did get it pretty bad but fought it off in the end.

It's best to nip it in the bud (so to speak) as early on as possible

I am hot washing, will keep doing that. I finish the ABs today so i qm hoping my body can start to recover. So scared.

Don't be scared! If you get it you get it, it's not the end of the world. La Leche League has lots of useful info on their website when I had it. I didn't give up BF. Good luck x

Keep doing what you’re doing but you have to be very religious about the creams. I also applied salt water with a cotton wool ball to each breast after a feed (it makes it inhospitable to fungal growth). Let air dry and put cream over that.

It just takes time. My GP advised to keep applying the creams for 7-10 days after last symptoms went away. I’m pretty sure I was using them for about 3-3.5 weeks. It was a pain, but worth it in the end. It cleared up eventually and went on to have no further problems.

Mississippilessly · 28/09/2018 17:45

mindutopia were you treating your baby during that time as well? He hates the medicine and it is so disruptive during the night

Missi how often are you giving baby their treatment? I don't bother at night (both me and DD have/had thrush, been treating for past two weeks) as it would only wake her then she'd want to feed again and wash it all away!! I have had conflicting advice from GP and lactation consultant to give 2 or 4 times a day so have been doing it probably 2/3 times a day, usually if we're going out or she's going in the sling so I know she won't be feeding for a while

tumtitum · 01/10/2018 15:16

I've also heard good things about organic cider vinegar (for nipples) so I'm going to get some today and continue using after we've finished the treatment to stop it coming back!!!

hethajf · 05/10/2018 15:17

Coconut oil! It cleared my thrush up within 48 hours, just pop a bit on before & after every feed if you can. I swear by it now, it’s fixed nappy rash, eczema and cracked nipples too! Cold pressed, virgin & organic oil if poss xx

Mississippilessly · 06/10/2018 15:53

Still got the damn thrush.
Hot washing my bras and towel every day. Changing pads v frequently - have just ordered reusables to get rid of the plastic. Topless as much as I can. Have 2 lovely nursing bras but both polyester, i am buying 2 cotton ones which dont fit me (I am a 30J) but any port in a storm.
I am taking acidophilus tablets, eating yoghurt and other anti fungal foods. I am struggling to cut out sugar and yeast but have limited them. i am washing my nipples down with vinegar and water after every feed. I have bought one-use syringes for DS.
My milk goes everywhere. Im currently nursing with a fucking puppy pad on me. Do i need to hot wash anything with milk on it or just anything in direct contact with my nipples? Also how hot is hot?

Am on 150mg fluconazole every day as well as the daktarin for me and nystatin for DS. The thrush is not too bad - i just cant get rid of it.

Is there anything else i can do? Please tell me this will FUCK OFF.

Honestly, give coconut oil a go. You’ll be fine using it alongside everything else and it’s been shown to be more effective than daktarin...

Mississippilessly · 06/10/2018 17:28

heth thanks for the heads up. I have a jar (i use it as make up remover) but it smells a bit old. I have just put it on with the daktarin, DS is now feeding and doesnt seem bothered by it. Will add it to my ever growing regime.

Is 50 degrees hot enough? Would be easier because i can just throw most stuff in..

Bless you it’s horrid isn’t it?! Laleche recommend at least 50 so should be fine I guess but I’d go hotter if you can. I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned previously, you can put white wine vinegar in your wash (provided there’s nothing that will get damaged by it) and that really works, even on a cooler wash. You can also try drinking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar a couple of times a day, dilute it in water so that you can stomach it. This helps to deal with the Candida in your gut and will help masses with your sugar cravings, thus improving the thrush all round (bit of a thrush expert here, DD1 and I suffered really badly).
I hope you manage to get rid of it soon, have a look at the laleche website for some more ideas too...

SofiaAmes · 06/10/2018 18:35

Shouldn't you see a doctor?

Mississippilessly · 07/10/2018 11:07

Sofia it says in my post I went to the doctors?

het thank you for your help and sympathy - I'm sorry to hear you and your DD struggled with it. I had a massive cry this morning, my DH said he was worried I am becoming obsessed (I am - he is right) but I don't know what else to do.

DS fed last night and my milk flow is v quick i leaked on my brand new Mint Velvet jumper. I don't know how to wash it and I feel like my milk is contaminated.

I am drinking the apple cider vinegar, resisting the cookies downstairs (which for me is very very tough) and I have added vinegar to the 2 washes I have already done today. To do those washes I put DS in the sling where he is happily sleeping, making my chest all warm and humid. If I take him out he will wake and want feeding for comfort, I then have to try and work out when to give him the medicine. Too early and he hasn't finished so drinks it all away - too late and he is asleep, so giving it to him makes him cry, and how do I comfort him - my giving him a feed... FFS.

If the pain was worse I would give up BF but it's not. But I am genuinely afraid for my mental health at this point. I've lost perspective a bit.

I caved and had 2 small cookies. I swear my boobs hurt the moment I swallowed.
