How do I wean?

DS is 6 months now.

Up until now I was quite set on BLW (no real idea why?) but the thought of that terrifies tbh with choking hazards and/or him not really eating anything.

I want to try and wean the healthiest way I can, but really don't know where to start. If I start with vegetable purées, am I able to move to BLW once he's older?

What is everyone's opinion on either method? I would like to hear some views because I'm struggling to know how to start! Thanks all.

I started on puréed vegetables, baby rice & porridge and then moved to fruit. After a month I got baby pasta in boots and added that to veg to introduce lumps. At around 7.5 months I introduced finger foods like toast, Ella's kitchen melty sticks are good too. My little girl has just turned one and is a mixture of spoon fed and BLW. Good luck

Even if you were to wean with purees, it’s pretty normal to offer finger foods alongside the purée OP. If you’re really worried about choking, have you considered doing a Paediatric First Aid Course as babies can choke on purees too.

And yes, you can start with just purees if that’s what you want to do and move to purees and finger foods or BLW after a few days or weeks.

The Caroline Walker Trust have produced a pretty useful guide here OP Smile

And even with puree, they don't eat a great deal anyway- a couple of teaspoons at most for quite a while

We did do paediatric first aid but I couldn't be faffed with purees and to be honest DS was not a fan of spoon feeding so we just gave bits of what we had (no honey, low salt). Probably 3 mo before he ate a significant amount and only after his birthday when i've had to actually increase amount made to cater for him
