I've just started co-sleeping with ds (5mo) because i was sick of getting up every 2 hours! the thing is, i feed lying down, but i don't know how to wind him. do i have to sit him up? do i need to wind him at all?

Hi UD

I sit him up to wind, only if he need it, sort of against the pillow, iyswim? Doesn't often though.

never winded with success ever. ds had horrific evening screamies but no sign it was caused by that.

don't think bf so likely to gulp in extra air?

charliegal · 07/06/2007 11:35

I never wind him! (6 months)

nellieloula · 07/06/2007 12:03

i was always told that bf'd babies don't need winding cause they don't swallow the same amnount of air that bottle fed lo's do??? My DS never did need it but I did find myself subconsciously gently patting his back afterwards which helped us both get back to sleep!

hi UrbanD, your LO may not need winding. sometimes because they are quite relaxed and sleepy at night, they don't swallow much air while feeding at night and are fine without being burped. if your LO goes back to sleep without a fuss, don't worry about it, he doesn't need it. if he does fuss a bit, or wake up soon after crying or fussing, then maybe you could just sit him up, or lie him over your tummy to gently compress his tummy, really whatever works and involves the least effort for you.

good luck.

sleepycat - you use Fluffles too?! (very cute pics!)

can i be told off for hjacking my own thread?

thanks for the replies! to be honest, he's never burped at night, it's like he's too sleepy. but I did wonder if that was why he was being so fussy at night all of a sudden??

i'm just so tired....
