The truth about caffeine please...

I'm so tired at the minute that I NEED my coffee hit but I'm concerned about the effect on DS (I'm BFing). There's a lot of conflicting advice out there about caffeine. Do other MNers find that it makes their LOs jittery and wakeful or not? Some people say eat and drink whatever the hell you like and some say you have to be ultra-careful. I'm confused!

With dd1, i didn't drink any coffee and she was a very jittery baby. she still is a jittery toddler.

DD2 is a lot calmer, and I drank two cups of coffee a day.

Eat and drink whatever you like.

There's no good evidence not to.

There's certainly no evidence you need to be 'ultra-careful' about caffeine - if you drink a lot of coffee and notice your baby reacts, then obviously you'd think about cutting down. But there's no need to worry otherwise.

Thanks! Thank God I can have my morning perk and not feel guilty.

As tiktok said...enjoy eating and drinking...if your DS seems to react after you've eaten and drunk something then be careful...my DS reacts to things in my BM so I'm careful about stuff but loads of babies are fine with anything...oh...he doesn't react badly to wine!!!Thank God

umm what would a bad reaction be? my lo doesn't want to nap a lot in the day but i truly will crash and burn if i have to give up coffee, its all that gets me through the day at the mo. am worried he keeps getting really overtired and overstimulated tho, and being a new mum am sure this must be my fault...

Gosh this is an old thread

A 'bad reaction' is not a baby who doesn't want to sleep much in the day....that can be very normal!
