Hungry milk?

Hi all,

My DS is 6 weeks old tomorrow and i need some help around feeding. Hes currently on Hipp organic milk and feeds lots during the day. Only going an hour or so between feeds or crying for more straight after. Hes taking 150ml a time but sicks up a lot after. During the night he wakes 4 hourly and often falls asleep on the bottle. Hes already taking more than he should at his age (according to the box). Im not sure whether to move him onto hungry milk as he is often sick during the day and i dont want to make it worse. Any advice welcome :)

I didn’t use formula for the first 6 months with dc but with dc1 I used hungry milk for a time after that, can’t remember why I switched back from it though which isn’t helpful...

With dc3 10 years later I’ve been told by all HCP’s not to use it as it sits heavy in their tummy’s and takes an age to digest (hense needing it less often). Although mine were a bit older when they used it I just gave them what they wanted in stage 1, didn’t follow the advice on the pack - just went with baby.

My boys are all much older but I remember Hungry milk making them very windy and giving them sore tummy's. Steer clear, just feed when needed.

Thank you both. We'll stick with what we have for now

I wouldn’t worry too much about what the carton says, at this age and until 6 months he should be having roughly 2.5 floz per pound in weight in 24 hours. So a 10 lb (4.5 kilo) baby should have roughly 25 floz (740 ml) in 24 hours.

If you use this equation, does it seem about right?

Do you use a dummy? Babies need to suckle which is hard to do on a bottle without over feeding. Personally I do not agree with hungry milk because it is basically harder to break down so can cause problems with their digestion.

Just regarding the falling asleep bit, have you tried changing the bottle teat size? We were using the newborn Tommee Tippee bottles and my DD always fell asleep on them or left half - switched to medium flow and she was much better.
