No improvement after tongue tie snipped

My little boy is 8 weeks old and after weeks of struggling with BF and being in agony I couldn't wait the 3 weeks for the referral on the NHS to have it done so I paid private and got it done yesterday. I was hopeful things would improve straight away and pain wise I'd say 30% of the time it has but I can tell he still can't latch properly because he's still making the clicking noise. Going to phone the community breastfeeding support worker and ask if she'll come and see us because I'm at my wits end. I was so hopeful that this would be the answers to our problems and I don't want to give up because I've suffered for what seems like ages but I'm just so bloody frustrated. Any tips or advice in the mean time?

My little girk was tongue tied too.. i found se has to relearn to bf.. so you have to go right back to the start of teaching him to latch. If its clicking or hurting.. take him off and relatch. Watch youtube videos to look at how to latch properly.
Hope the bf support can help.

Sympathies. It’s miserably hard isn’t it.
Sorry if this is obvious but have you looked again at positioning? Hold him nice and close, tummy against you, making sure his body or head doesn’t have to twist to latch. Nipple to nose etc. I used to have to manually ease DD’s head back so that her mouth was in the right place, she never seemed to do it naturally. I also found that around 8-10 weeks I needed to refocus my positioning as it needed to change to accommodate DD being bigger.

My DD had a tongue tie and it was spotted late despite being quite bad (it was posterior) and was snipped at 10 weeks. It took her a while to learn to feed properly afterwards and I went to BF support groups to get advice on positioning, which also helped.

With us the clicking noise did continue for a bit after and i would say her latch was never as good as dd1s who wasn't tongue tied.
Really hope it improves for you. Xx

As PPs have said, it takes time after having it snipped to get the full benefit. The tongue is a muscle and your DC has to relearn how to use it. It's great that you've got improvement already but it does take time. Both my DSs had tongue tie and it took a good 2 weeks to be pain and click free after having it snipped.

DS1 had to relearn too - in fact I reckon 24-48 hrs after the divide were the worst for feeding.
DS2's the wasn't as bad, and was divided earlier. There was an instant improvement.

So, it almost certainly will be better. Stick with it, try and be as proactive as you can in getting good positioning and good latch. Fingers crossed it will be easier soon.

Hows it going?

Things are improving, his latch is great and I'm not having any pain at all. The only thing is that he's still feeding hourly so not sure what to do about it :/

That's great! Feeding hourly could just be him.. some babies are snackers little and often other prefer every 3 hours.

also its so hot he is using milk to keep him hydrated so feeding often would be normal.
