Confused about expressing/bottles/babysitting

My DD is 6 weeks old and breastfed. She will happily take a bottle even from me so Im not concered about that. Today I've started trying to build a freezer supply of milk so when my mum or MIL babysits they can feed her. So far Ive got 3oz by hand. I'm storing the milk in 2oz tomeee tippee pots, but im confused how to leave the milk with my mum because MIL said dont store more than 2oz in a bottle so if DD doesnt take it all its not wasted. So do I leave a few pots and a sterilised bottle with the babysitter or add the milk to the sterilised bottle ready? Also I'm worried if i go out for a few hours I might not leave enough milk and she'll still be hungry. Can anyone help?

If baby was full term and healthy you don't need to sterilise anything. Just leave small amounts in the freezer (your mil is right about that yay a mil who is knowledgeable about bf!) and they can defrost it if needed, or else I'd leave one 2oz feed thawed and more in the freezer. Usually the guideline is 1oz per hour you're gone, kellymom website has good info on this.

Thank you Smile Anyone any tips on how to build a good freezer supply? Just pump a few oz a day?

Pump at the same time each day, eat oats!

MIL is right about smaller bottles to start, once baby drinks from the bottle it either needs finishing or discarding within an hour.

Once you build up your stash remember to date everything, and use the older stuff first. I used to defrost what I was sure DS would have, and also leave a bit extra I had expressed that day (Hadn’t been frozen), with instructions to use it last. Then if he didn’t have it I could transfer it to the freezer, so nothing got wasted.

If you are hoping to build up a bigger supply, I would recommend breast milk bags. They come sterilised and if you lay them flat to freeze you can then stack them really compactly in freezer. Any make will do, just tip the milk from the bottle you use to express, straight into the bag.

I having expressed yet and am confused about how to do this, do i pump off opposite breast after a feed, if baby takes the second breast after first is this the same? I'm completely clueless about this any advice on this would be helpful. I expressed a small amount 2 nights ago after a difficult time feeding, we didn't end up needing it, its still in fridge, can i freeze it now or does it need to be frozen straight away? Thank you

no, they don't. Sadly it's an urban myth and there's no solid evidence
