DD is 7 wks, and although I knew I had put on some weight in pregnancy , because i had a slight chocolate obsession , it was NOTHING compared to the way I am eating now. I am literally a dustbin, and cannot stop feeding my face. I am now as heavy as I was when I was about to give birth, fgs. What the heck is going on? Why are some of my friends losing steadily and I seem to be scooping up their discarded pounds?

Are you breastfeeding?

BaffledByBabyTights · 29/05/2007 20:41

yes - exclusively.

i'm eating loads but i am losing weight still so figured i could justify the chocolate

Flame · 29/05/2007 20:44

Some people don't lose the weight until they have been breastfeeding 6 months, some not until they stop etc.

I ate soooooooooooooo much breastfeeding, and still lost a hell of a lot of weight by the end.

Try to eat sensible foods, but you can still eat lots iyswim.

You will be hungry - you need the extra calories for breasfeeding - including lots of fluid. Don't worry about it - just listen to your body and eat when hungry and try to drink a lot of water. Obviously try to eat healthy if you can - not always easy with a new baby around I know!!

Don't worry about weight gain, enjoy the baby and worry about the weight later

Meid · 29/05/2007 20:46

I had an insatiable appetite when I breastfed. Both times, I put on most of my weight in the first 3 months after giving birth. Everyone around me seemed to be saying that the weight just fell off them with breastfeeding. I felt my body was failing me but I had to eat constantly!

I breastfed both times for about 7 months and each time the constant hunger decreased after about 3 months.

Hope this is of some comfort!

deestingsduznotappen · 29/05/2007 20:47

I put on 12lbs in the first 10 weeks ex bf because, - ds was always hungry, so I had not time to make proper food, just to sit on the sofa and eat jaffa cakes!

DS no 6 months old, - haven't lost a single pound (still bf, but he's also on solids). I never had a sweet tooth before I was pregnant, but I certainly have now!!!

BF making you loose weight is just a stupid myth to try to make women bf IMO!

NikkiBFG · 29/05/2007 20:48

I'm still 3st overweight and DS was a year old last week

morocco · 29/05/2007 20:49

theres a theory your body confuses hunger and thirst, have you tried having a drink before you eat? i'm doing slightly better this time round (ha ha, that just means slightly less biscuits/cakes/ice cream) and it's cos I'm drinking before every snack so it's worth a go

BandofMothers · 29/05/2007 20:51

I absolutely craved fatty foods, as dd2 was a PIG. It is normal, so eat when you need to to keep your milk going

BTW, I also had total choccie craving when pg with both mine. And after dd2 was born I was terrible. She was such a pig I could've lost all the weight, but didn't as I ate far too much chocolate

BaffledByBabyTights · 29/05/2007 20:52

Meid, that is of some comfort!!! Moroco, I will try the drink thing. V fed up that I can't get into any of my tops, and bf in ones without space is too uncomfortable round the duvet tum. I have friends who are dieting, but even the thought of it makes me reach for another biscuit....

thanks for making me realise I am not alone! Dh came home last week and did a bin inspection and said 'why did you eat 3 marsbars today' - I said, 'because there weren't 4 in the house'.

forhet your weight , you are feeding your baby which is far more important at the moment, weight will drop off when baby starts to crwal/walk.......
you are being afr too harsh on yourself

NikkiBFG · 29/05/2007 21:06

I'm liking that reply! DH told me on Saturday when I asked him to be honest about my weight (why??!!) that I wasn't as attractive now that I am fatter....

hotbot · 29/05/2007 21:14

N, am only glad you could understand it!!!
as for husband,,pah,
grill his
testicles and have them as pate on toast!!!!!!

NikkiBFG · 29/05/2007 22:14

Mmmm....

suis · 29/05/2007 23:44

I've now been bfing for 3 months and the insatiable hunger is starting to drop off a bit... although I do still have a large appetite it's not the same "having to eat carbs and choclate without pausing" stage that it was a few weeks ago. I put on nearly half a stone in the first couple of months after DS was born, but I have now managed to stabilise my weight and hopefully some will start to come off. HOwever, I do agree with NikkiBFG, sod the weight for just now... feeding your baby and being kind to yourself are far more important just now than the size of your bum... plently of time to worry about that sort of stuff later.

BaffledByBabyTights · 30/05/2007 20:05

This time i dont feel as hungry bbut i am still eating loads and still loosing weight.
