Colic?

Stupidly long post here sorry guys..

So little one has just turned 12 weeks, it started on a Sunday night at 8pm when he was having his last bottle before bed and started to scream half way through.. this scared the life out of me and OH as he has always been such an easy happy baby. This cry was awful and we could tell something wasn't right. He has continued to do this 4 times in one week, 3 of them all at different times between 5pm and 10pm and once in the morning.

All the signs are there for it being colic, pulls his legs up, arches his back, if I hold him in positions with a bit of pressure on his stomach it soothes him, gripe water works and warm compresses on his belly. HV isn't convinced as she says he's too old to get colic as this is the time it starts to wear off, doctors won't see him until it's been happening 10 days - it's only just been a week today. Has anyone had something similar? It usually takes us a good 45 minutes trying different positions until he tries himself out from crying and eventually goes to bed. But when he wakes later for his 4am feed he's absolutely fine.

This is our routine that we've followed religiously this week..
Infacol before every feed
Winded every 2oz (ff and on 6oz)
Gripe water after the last 2 bottles before bed
Kept upright for 15 minutes after
Colic massages done twice throughout the day

Is there anything I'm missing? We haven't had a problem for 3 days but panicking it could happen at any time during the evening. Could it have just been a tummy bug? Or is it his digestive system maturing?

Any help would be great!

Hi,
I probably don’t have much advice for you as DS had colic from about 3-4 weeks old but he has only just grown out of it at around 4 months. It does seem slightly late but again I don’t have enough experience to say whether it can start this late? Only other thing I can think of is reflux. We seemed to have a dip in the ‘colic’ before it represented looking more like reflux. Main differences were that DS would start to bring up milk after every feed and it was increasing (still not bad as in projectile or a large volume as some babies with reflux can have) Became very irritable, back arching and looked uncomfortable. You could hear the milk coming back up his throat etc and he could still be sick a few hours after his feed. Does your little one have anything like this?

It sounds like your doing everything right. Could be a bit of tummy pain sometimes? I think the whole pooing sensation is still very new to them at this stage. I know when DS needed to poo he would get very upset?

Sorry I’m not much help to you!xx

@charley39 the only thing I'm sure it's not is reflux as this little one does not let anything go to waste! He doesn't spill a drop and is never sick! We've actually been clear for 4 nights now so the only other thing I can put it down to is the acids in his stomach changing? and maybe his digestive system getting ready for food as I can try him on porridge and rice in a few weeks.

It may have been nothing and something as my happy baby has made a re-appearance but has left me with mass panic whenever he starts crying incase it turns into the blood curdling scream I've heard for the past week! Thanks anyway!

No worries I hope it doesn’t come back! We had it randomly a couple of weeks ago at 5am he just started screaming out of nowhere and again last night funnily enough! Although his first tooth has just cut and he’s on some purée so could be either or! Good luck 😊
