Expressing breast milk

Currently 29+6 weeks pregnant and considering expressing my breast milk and feeding baby that way. First baby was formula fed, 2nd baby I only breastfed for 2 days then on to formula. This time I really would like baby to have my milk but the experience I had with 2nd baby has really put me off!
So I guess my question is...have any of you had any expressing experience? What are the pros and cons of expressing?

I am 9 weeks in to exclusive pumping for my son. I started off with 8 times a day on a single pump but switched to a double at 7 weeks and I've managed to drop to 7 pumpings a day. I have 15 or 16 bags of 6oz in the freezer so if my supply drops I can increase pumping and use that until my supply comes up again. I think I am lucky though, I get 3-4oz off each side in about 15 mins.

It's hard work but I only have 1 child, the time required might be difficult I as you have other DC to look after. However for me I think it has, to date, been easier than friends who are breastfeeding but whereas it will get easier for them it won't for me.

I'm aiming for 6mo, whether I'll make it I don't know yet.

Thank you so much for all your replies.. you have definitely given me some food for thought and plenty of things to look into. I think spending the time looking into some proper BF support then perhaps pumping to create an over supply may be the best option. Thanks again ladies

Then if the little bugger doesn’t drink it all your heart will die a little...

Grin

One of mine had projectile vomiting and I used to cry when I’d spent an hour feeding him and he then sat up and threw it up across the room.
