1 month old crying after every feed

My 1 month old breastfed DS is screaming and kicking his legs after every feed. He is inconsolable and it can last until he wears himself out. His poos are a good number and yellow seedy so I think he’s getting what he needs and is gaining weight well. I’m at a loss about what to do. I burp him after every feed, and keep him upright for half an hour. He’s not sick much but does posset a little bit. The doctor said they don’t think it’s reflux but I was wondering about silent reflux (which they dismissed). Would colief, dentinox colic, infacol or gripe water be likely to help? Any advice on which one? Any advice full stop would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried putting him back on?

Yes he bobs on and off screaming and then eventually descends into full on screaming and turns his head away and won’t latch. He’s my second DS and I think his latch is good but he just isn’t interested in continuing a feed. I should say my boobs seem to have emptied pretty well by the time he comes off. It’s all so confusing.

My little boy was the same and was started on Ranitifine for silent reflux when he was 4 weeks old.

It didn’t really help much and his screaming was unbearable. It used to bring me to tears most night because of how much pain he was in.

At 9 weeks of age it was suggested to me that maybe my baby had an allergy to dairy and my milk actually causing him the pain so I went dairy free and in time things improved.

You have my sympathies because watching a baby scream until they pass out from exhaustion is absolutely heart breaking Sad

My Grand Daughter had silent reflux (doctor also dismissed reflux but health visitor said it sounded like silent reflux) and we used Gripe water. It did help a lot but not enough so my daughter moved onto bottle and breastfeeding. We used Colief in the bottles which helped tremendously and Gripe water after breastfeeds. Within a week there was a dramatic improvement.

I forgot to mention you can try Gaviscon Infant Sachets. I used to work in a pharmacy and many a Mum said they were a lifesaver for their babies reflux.

Hiya, I just registered to reply to you because I had the same problem and was despairing until I found posts on American forums. Turned out that my wee one had actually finished feeding but still wanted to comfort suck and got really upset when there was still milk coming cause he was full. The solution was to give him a dummy to suck on. It took away the lovely cozy end to bf but it settled him immediately. I know they talk about confusion etc but I was in tears and it was an absolute life saver! Hope it helps.

It’s so hard seeing your baby cry OP, especially when you don’t know what’s wrong. Have a read of My Baby is fussy! Is something wrong? on Kellymom and Dairy and other food sensitivities in BF babies.

Thanks everyone, there’s some really useful tips in your replies. I am going to take him back to the doctor and also trial dairy free to see if that helps. He is bad today just screaming non stop, it’s exhausting!
